New Users

Right now when a new user joins my site they get a promotional account. The email confirmation is sent to them and they confirm. Is there any way that when they confirm their email they get a standard account? As of right now they stay in the promotional account. This is good way to weed out spammers, my promotional account is set to expire in 4 days. I would buy a mod if it existed does one exist?

I think promotion membership is to limit what one can do during the promotional period.  Then when the promotional period expires, their membership updates to standard.

I was thinking that when the promotional membership ends the account becomes inactive. I think I will be going with ESASE's Paid join module  That should stop most spammers. But thanks for your help I will momitor my test user to see what happens at the end of it's promotional account in 4 days.

Yes. Disable the promotional membership. There is a enable promotional membership checkbox.

They will still have to confirm email as long as it's setup that way, the difference is there account is standard after that.

I know I can have them join straight into a standard account I was hoping that with them going to the promotional account first and only have access to features allowed in the promo account. If they did not confirm their email at the end of the 4 day life of the promo account there account would become inactive and I could delete them. Now if they did confirm their email while in the promo account I wanted them to be updated to the standard account automatically thereby saving me the time consuming work of moving them there manually. I figure a spammer is not going to use a real email and would never confirm their email and then become inactive. I know Dolphin used to do this if I remember right but my memory from 2007 is a little vague. Seems like no matter what account you let users join they have access to the site. I would think the logical way is to not allow access above nonmember until they have confirmed their email most social sites work that way.

When the promo account period ends, the account is "deleted" I know, I have a site with 15 day promo accounts, set to email member everyday for five days before the membership is removed.

Allowing only  e.g. chat page - no simple messenger

or viewing photos - not able to upload

many options..
