I am going to be releasing a new module tonight(late) called SMS Captcha.
This module replaces the default reCaptcha that comes with dolphin with SMS Verification.
Basically stops spammers dead in their tracks. Members that join the site must have a verification code sent to their mobile phone. Then that code must be entered in the box before the join form can be submitted.
It also has a option to allow codes to be sent to a email address as well for those without a mobile phone, or carrier is not on the list.
At the moment only US and Canada carriers supported. Uses the carriers free email to SMS gateways that most carriers provide hence the reason the captcha prompts for your country and carrier as well as the mobile phone number.
If your in the US or Canada, please test.
Testing at http://www.deanbassett.com/join.php https://www.deanbassett.com |
Just tested it on an ATT blackberry. pretty much everything worked as it should except after joining got a site is down for maint msg.
Also, US popular and US other is a little confusing. there is prob a better way to label that US major carriers.

Sorry. My spam filters banned you after you joined. I have hotmail.com addresses blocked. I restored the account and removed the hotmail block.
I named those based on what a few other online SMS site use.
So what labels would you suggest?

I'd go with US: Major Carriers and US: Other Carriers.
...And as someone who has been e-banned from many places, this may be the most innocuous reason ever. lol

Works good. Tested with verizon/iphone. A suggestion,
- After entering mobile number and clicking send verification code. Next to "enter verification code" there should be "resend code which sends the code again and/or re-enter number which brings you back the original input fields.
I entered the wrong phone number the first time and couldn't figure how to change it without refreshing page.

Can you modify this to have an option that would enforce 2-factor sms or authenticator be used to login? There should also be a "Keep me logged in for 14 days" check box.
Let me know if you have any questions regarding this.
Thanks,

I didnt see where it would send to your phone , Am I missing something ? Other than that the email side of things work fast and very nice , no snags |
Oh. Currently my other email only captcha is installed. I can install the SMS version so you can test. I will have to setup two different test sites to keep both of them available for testing.
The current SMS version also only supports US and Canada only.
As for mod requests. I work a separate normal job now due to lack of mod sales. I no longer have the time i used to have to make custom requests. Until things pick back up here allowing me to quit the other job i have, i have to stick to current mods, bug fixes, ect. No new mods.

Bummer . . . I really need a two-factor option for login. Let me know if you find time, I can pay.
Thanks,
John
