Need urgent Help

Hi guys,

I downloaded the latest version (6.1.6) of dolphin and follow the installation guide.

I have uploaded all the files and cretaed the database. However when i run the install file,

it gave me errors whic are permisssion setting error.

I have set the permissions as per instructions but i could not find some of the files in the dwnloaded package which are asked to be set with permissions.

For example, there is no groups/orca/cachejs folder in the downloaded package.

I will really appreciate your advice and help.

thanks

Adnan

Your permissions were not run correctly.

cd /home/moretha1/public_html/ukgang.com/

and run these 4 commands:

It does exist in the package.

I have seen this before. Some zip extracting programs are not unpacking all of the files properly.

It is best to upload the zip archive directly to the server and unpack it there, but if your host does not provide a way to unpack zip archives directly on the server then you need to get a better extractor. Try winrar at http://www.rarlab.com/rar/winrar-x64-39b2.exe

It has never failed me.

Thanks for advice.

I am using filezilla ftp client. can you guide me where should i run these commands. currently i am selecting the required file and change the permission to 777 but i could not find some of the files.

Thanks

Yeah, I just checked it too.  The directories are definitely in the download package, and not on astire's server.  I use Winzip and it has never failed me.

astire, what program did you use to unzip the download package?

Ok, let me explain again.

The files you are missing should be there. So, when you unpacked the zip file, not all of the files were extracted. So when you uploaded them you did not get them all.

You need to take a step backwords. Unpack the archive again with a BETTER extraction program such as winrar as i suggested and then upload them again.

I had a similar problem a few mins ago, only at the end of the install process.

When the installer checked my files for the "Permissions Reversal" stage, it came up asking for correction on two items (inc and periodic).  I fixed these, in accordance with the "more info" docs linked on that page, changing those two directories to 755 and five other files to 644, but when I clicked "check" to refresh the page (hoping for green), it still says that the files have inappropriate permissions, and thus will not let me proceed.

If I hit "Skip," I get a fatal error regarding "inc/header.inc.php on line 193" as No such file or directory.  This file is not in the original unstuffed version I copied over to my server, so I assume it is generated by the installer as a final step...correct?

Anyone have a solution to these issues?

Thanks!

Mike

Thanks Guys,

i use winrar to unzip now and it extracted all the files. Going to upload all the files again so that i dont miss any file.

I hope problem will be solved uploading the complete package.

thanks for all your help.

I'd suggest you edit your first post in this thread and remove the url to your install directory.

Fiodan,

It sounds as though the files are NOT getting chmodded for some reason.

After you change the permissions, REFRESH the directory and visually confirm they indeed did change.

If the files/directories are the correct permissions, they will turn green on the install page.

Frustrating is not the word for this install process.   I have blown a day and a half jerking around with this stuff, and it still isn't working.  Did I read somewhere that there was a bug in the permissions pages (both initial and rollback) part of the install that sometimes misjudged how the permissions were actually set (fixed for Windows installs, but not for Unix). If so, this pretty much dead-ends users, as you can't finish the install without it (can you?).

This is not a rhetorical question, I really need to know:  Is this product like a kit computer, where nobody knows the right answer, and you just have to tinker until you get it right?  If so, I need to move on to a different product, as I am investing hours into Dolphin, and don't seem to be getting anywhere.  The files are chmoded to the settings in the rollback part of the docs

SITE CHMOD 755 ./inc
SITE CHMOD 755 ./periodic
SITE CHMOD 644 ./periodic/cmd.php
SITE CHMOD 644 ./periodic/notifies.php
SITE CHMOD 644 ./periodic/cupid.php
SITE CHMOD 644 ./periodic/tags.php
SITE CHMOD 644 ./ray/modules/global/inc/header.inc.php

...but still I get

Next directories have inappropriate permissions:
inc;
periodic;
Next files have inappropriate permissions:
periodic/cmd.php;
periodic/notifies.php;
periodic/cupid.php;
ray/modules/global/inc/header.inc.php;

Boonex...got your ears on?

I have created a couple of online permission changers that may help some people with setting and reversing permissions.

You will need a second browser window open while installing dolphin to use these.

When you get to the part that asks you to set permissions at the beginning of the install process, you can use this online utility with your second browser window to set the permissions for you.

http://www.efriendsrock.com/ftp-set-perm.php

Then when you get to the last part to reverse the permissions go here.

http://www.efriendsrock.com/ftp-reverse-perm.php

Let me know if that works for you.

I use winrar as well and it unzipped for me fine. :) Maybe try and download it again... maybe it, the downloaded file got corrupted somehow... Never know.. :)

Fiodan:

the /inc/header.inc.php file is created at install. File permission get "funny" if that file isn't created... I have some theories, but not important for topic...

You first post identified this issue and seems to continue, so...

Download a fresh D6.1.6zip. Upload such zip directly to your server. "DO NOT" unpack/extract prior to uploading to the server. Extract/unpack the zip on the server.

Now ensure you have all the PHP configs right. Install again. If that /inc/header.inc.php file does not create PM me or any other trusted UNITY member and have them send you a clean header.inc.php file and manually input your site directives and upload.

This should solve your problem and explain why you are having it. Possibly.?!

I'm listening and hear you fine :)

Let me know

Well, I just wrote a long, detailed email saying it didn't work, but when I tried to go back and hit the index page, it asked me to delete the install directory, and it now looks like we're in business (despite what the installer said).

Does anyone think there are any hidden residual problems involved because it did not pass the final tests?  The permissions are set to spec, so I'd hope not, right?

I am leaving the text of that message in place in the hopes it helps someone else.  THANKS! for your help sombRIA!!

:

I have performed all the instructions in your above message:

*Downloaded Fresh Archive

*Unzipped on the server

*set the CHMOD, as directed on http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/DetailedInstall#Permissions

*Because this (unix) server is running PHP as a CGI, I did not need to roll back the permission on the files, as they were already set that way (except for ffMPEG, which I did set to 644 manually.

I went through the install process, and was slammed with the same ol' error:

http://www.fiodan.com/dolphin_help/errors.png

Here is a screenshot showing the info pane for the two directories (just so you know I am not crazy), along with the part of the docs I was following:

http://www.fiodan.com/dolphin_help/permissions_set.png

I called tech support at the hosting provider (ultrawebsitehosting.com) to confirm the items were, in fact, set to the permissions I was seeing on my FTP client.

There IS a header.inc.php file in the ./inc directory, but it is obviously not doing the trick.

That's my story to this point.  I have expended about 14 man hours trying to get this app rolling (which was originally budgeted at THREE, including the after-install config stuff).

Guess I should have tapped the Unity community for a paid hand.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Best,

M

Hi Fiodan, I've been having the same problem. I've never had such issues with 6.1.4, even though that installation was long and painful with regards to the file permissions, at least it worked.

I've done everything from downloading the package again and re-uploading to perform new install. I always use Winrar and Filezilla too. Same error comes up, so I've skipped the end part and the site comes up, appears fine until I need to use the TinyMCE editor e.g. in Articles, or I can't seem to upload a new logo.

I'm just gonna stick with 6.1.4 for now as I'm not sure what the advantages to using 6.1.6 are anyway. At least you know you're not the only one getting these issues. Hopefully your pains have gone away now :)
