Need help adding a banner. I'm so new at this!

I've logged in as an administrator to my account, and then I've gone to tools and selected Banners.  This is where I'm stuck because I expected that it would be as easy as just uploading the banner from my desktop that I've already created with CS5.  I'm very new to this and I was hoping that someone can help me through this.

You can't upload it from your computer directly into the banner spot, you have to upload it separately (to your server using cpanel or to a separate image host like flickr) and use that url into the "text" box in <img src="your image url"> format.

Thank you so much guys!  That was very helpful.  Now I'm trying to get help from my host server as far as how to upload my banner to the server.  If I'm not mistaken, the banner area is the top header above the photos.  Is that correct?

You can upload them into your folder on your host /media/images/banners and replace the promo01, 02...etc with your banners.

The promo banners are are the large rotating banners on the login/front page. The advertising banners can go anywhere you pick for them. Do you have cPanel or ftp access? You can create a new folder in your root directory /images/ and upload them there. Then your url will be http://yoursiteurl/images/yourimagename.

And banner placement in the default template has 4 placement options, Top is above the menu bar, Bottom is above the footer links. And I haven't checked out Right and Left placements.
