MultiPass - Multiple Password Encryption Support for D7

This is a source code modification for Dolphin 7 to allow Dolphin 7
to support 7 different password encryption methods.

This modification will allow your dolphin site to support password encryption
methods other than dolphin 7 password encryption.

Supported password types are....

Dolphin 6
Dolphin 7
MD5
SHA1
PHPBB3
Drupal
Wordpress

This becomes useful if you need to import users from phpbb3 into dolphin and
want members to be able to log in with the same passwords they used in phpbb.

PLEASE DO NOT MESSAGE ME TO ASK HOW TO IMPORT USERS FROM ONE CMS INTO DOLPHIN.
THAT IS NOT INCLUDED AS PART OF THE NORMAL SUPPORT OF THIS MODULE.
AND IN MOST CASES I WILL NOT KNOW THE ANSWER ANYWAY.

Advanced questions such as that should be posted in the dolphin 7 forums
on boonex.com

This module can be difficult to install. I do installs for $10 if you should
need me to do it for you.

Yes. New users passwords will be encrypted using the selected default.

Existing users however cannot be converted until they log in.

You can change what the default password type dolphin will use is set to, and if dolphin is to changed existing passwords to that type when members log in. Those options are in Admin -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> General

You should not change it unless you have a specify need to do so. If you import users into your database from lets say wordpress, the wordpress password will work for login and based on the current settings will be automatically converted to a dolphin 7 password as soon as the member first logs in.

I do not know what you intended to used this module for. But thats what it was designed to do. To allow you to used hashed passwords from other software for import reasons so accounts being imported can use the existing password instead of you having to assign them one and email it to them.

That's cool, but the passwords will be encrypted or convert into an encrypted version correct?

 Correct.

For example. If you import a members profile from wordpress and place that password in dolphins profile password field.

Wordpress passwords are a hash that look like this. $P$BQSM3zQZZyPzHZQUQ1kk4/8a9IyiIM0

When the member first logs in the password will be converted to the format you specify in the settings. The default is d7. So the new password would end up looking something like this. 67597d44001f8e1fbd9c8d76c5f191afab5b5ba6

In any case, it is always hashed. Plain passwords are not stored anywhere.

Cool, but what if they are a new member and they enter their own password, will the same function applys to them as well?

Members that signup new on your site will have the password hashed into the format that you set as dolphins default format.

Another example as you seem to be having some problems understanding this.

Normally in dolphin when a new member joins they enter a password, and dolphin creates a hash from that password and stores it in the database. It still does that. The only difference now is if you decide to change the default from d7 format to wordpress, then the hash that is generated will not be a d7 hash, but a wordpress hash.

What i designed this mod for was to allow people to import passwords from other software they were running before dolphin such as phpbb or wordpress into dolphin so dolphin could allow the phpbbs or wordpress user to use the same password they always did and dolphin would simply rehash it after a successful login to dolphins password format.

New users when they create a new account would still be hashed the same as before unless you change the default. Changing the default is only useful if you for some reason need to share login information such as login id and password between dolphin and wordpress or between dolphin and phpbb which is another use for this mod.

I assume this works both ways?

My members will join the site first, but are forced to create a new profile for my phpbb forum.

If I install this, could a site member use the phpbb forum without having to re-register?

It does not. I will not create accounts on your phpbb forum.
