Does anyone know if I can keep my domain name if I move form HFW to a decent host ? I sent this an email asking but you know ,,, who knows when or if I get a reply and when I do it will be " this has to be escalated to another department andf bla bla bla |
First of all, who is the domain registrar? Is it Host for Web? If so, then you might want to see about moving the domain name to a new registrar. The domain name does not have to be with the company you are hosting on. However, I have heard bad things about HfW; not sure if they would hassle you or not If your domain name was a free one included with hosting and you want to drop hosting, then you will have to buy the domain name from the company. I had to do this recently for a client that moved off of a host that gave her a free domain name. Moving domain names to a new registrar is easy, you make sure the domain is unlocked, then you get the authorisation key to move it, then just follow the steps; the registrar will list the steps needed. Be sure you own the domain before you drop hosting; as I said, if you was given a free domain, you don't own it; you will have to buy it from the hosting company'; which would be the same as if you brought an additional domain name. If they try to give you any difficulties, tell them you will contact ICANN; a registrar can lose the right to sell domain names; you have to apply and pay to registrar domain names and their are rules to follow. Geeks, making the world a better place |

Staying put for the moment. Rms is working . may still move around the end of the month. See how it goes. Thanks for everyones input. |
I NEVER take a free domain name from a host, for this reason. I buy my domain from a outside source (cheapdomain.com). That way I can take it with me no matter where I host. You possess an intuitive intelligence so powerful it can help you heal, and relieve stress. |
I did pay for the domian name actually . |
it will be the end of your commitment to one year
Following the purchase of your domain with your hosting.
