Moving the member menu

I copied the line...

__extra_top_menu__

from...

_sub_header.html

to...

navigation_menu.html

both files in are templates/tmpl_my_template, not templates/base. This has allowed me to place the member controls inside the main menu block.

I also changed a load of CSS classes. After quite some time I discovered that when items are clicked in the menu the drop-down appears and then disappears straight away, sometimes it will stay but rarely. I have been undoing changes for hours but try as I might I can't find where I caused the problem. I would think this is a java issue but I haven't touched any js files other than when I applied the fix for the date of birth selection for Chrome which I've tried undoing and wasn't the cause.

Any ideas?

P.S. I don't want to paste a link because it's in a dev sub directory and I don't want the search engines to find it.

OK, this is fixed. I can't say how I caused it for future reference because I ended up backing up my work and replacing all the files I had worked on from the D7 download. Eventually I narrowed it down to one file but I still couldn't see anything wrong so I started again with the mods on that file. Thanks for taking the time to read though.
