Mod to purge/delete events older than xyz number of days...

Do you know of a mod to purge/delete events (we're using the standard Boonex Events module) older than a specified number of days? It doesn't seem logical to have events 1yr old still showing in the user's profile. Any ideas... or just a manual delete in from the database?

When creating an Event, the 'End Date' is required. Are you saying that even after the end date, they are still showing on the user's profile page?

They still exist on the site if you search back and because of this (although not Boonex's problem/fault) they still show in the IBDW MegaProfile mod under "Events". So, for example, if a user created 3 events lasting for 2hrs each during January 2010, their events still show "Events (3)" despite the events themselves ending over a year ago. If there was an automatic time period for events to be deleted after the end, that may be a useful addition.

What if the event were something where people uploaded lots of photos and videos?  They might not like all their memories suddenly deleted.   Any auto-pruning mechanism needs to take that into account.

@houstonlively - Yes, you are right,  deleting entries of your users would not be good.

Additionally, many times, you will also have to purge any comments attached to the event, and also look at votes, forums, and even ratings. One of the great parts of the events history is to be able to look up the quality of the person's events by reading their comments and ratings.

What you have is a big issue with the IBDW Mega Profile mod. Many of the links and parameters are hard coded, and cannot be changed by the user tweaking the code since it is encrypted.  I have had similiar issues with the 1Col and 3 Col mods and removed them for sites I worked on.

The best profile enhancement program is Anton's .. works more widely with most other modules, and is easily tweaked.

I don't see it as a big problem, just I received an email from a user today asking why he was still seeing a year old event still showing up on his profile. It's the way the MegaProfile handles events - ideally they'd be removed from the count when the event has ended. I'll suggest it to the developer... as you said above deleting posts/photos etc automatically wouldn't be favourable and there would have to be some user interaction to ask whether they'd like to confirm deletion. A MegaProfile adaptation would be preferable/easier I think!

Both of these are good reasons for not having auto pruning.

My argument is I now run a site with events, hundreds of weekly if not daily ones posted by the team of site admins and only them, no members are on this site.

It's good to have them (events) I thought at first because of great rankings on google with landings on these events, old or current got them to the site.

PROBLEM,

the underlined event has passed and remains on the map causing confusion for people seeking the daily events...

The way I have the page setup I'm using the map which not only shows the current but ALL the old ones making a confusing mess.

Boonex please incorporate a method to prune old events.
