Mobile Apps Up Next For Upgrade?

Yeah I know you get tired of hearing it but I think it is very vital for Dolphin to get with the 'mobile' age. There have been many topics before about this (some by me) regarding the need to add more functionality to the mobile apps. I am going to keep this to a minimum but here are some of the most important modules (in my opinion) to add:

(Most Important)

- A way to join the website: Believe it or not, there are some people that do not even own a 'computer' but instead do the 'networking' via mobile apps. Or let's say that you tell someone about your site but they are at work and your site is blocked, they may forget by the time they go home..

- View and Post to Timeline: This one is obvious. I asked for this with the previous wall too. When people login to their Facebook or Twitter mobile apps for example, do you think they are there to just 'view'??? 99.999999999999% of the people 'post' something. Even if the 'post' feature is just for text and photos for now, at least it's a start.

After those you can then start looking at groups, events, forums, etc.

Come on.. What do ya say?? Its just 2 little bitty requests to get added :)

Thanks Alex for the reply but I do have a concern.

You stated that you were adding the ability to join/login via Facebook which is great. But what about us who do not have a Facebook account that will allow us to create an app? For example, my website has a Facebook page but you cannot create apps using 'pages' only. There needs to be a way to manually join 'without' having to use a Facebook app.

Also, is there no word on whether the Timeline is being considered for the next upgrade?

Just what the world needs, more FaceSucks LOL.  How about fixing the privacy thing which defaults to public so that inappropriate photos show up on the home page?  Or the fact that chat double posts; quite annoying when you are chatting.  Or the fact that replies are collapsed and hard to see and that expand all does not expand all the replies?

OK, I will now leave the room.

Geeks, making the world a better place

There is no plan to add join page functionality to the mobile app, if you have mobile license, you can add external link to the app to join through the site.

Timeline is not going to be added in v.1.7, you can use 3rd-party modules for it for now.

That is true, but in order to use the available '3rd-party modules' you are referring to, you cannot use the Timeline/Outline features on you site at all.

Oh well.

Not being able to upload photos is the main reason for not upgrading my account to take advantage of the rebranding of mobile apps. I wont even offer the link on my site as I prefer my users to log on using their phones browsers.

I would love to see more functional mobile apps too, my users always complain about the lack of features ... now this apps are more a viewer then anything else. at least a way to join at sites without facebook would be nice. some sites can not use facebook join at all because of regulated nicknames or something like this.

Just for clarification, you CAN upload photos with the standard mobile app (photos).

That was precisely my point. Currently you have to go 'searching' through the apps to see if anyone has added anything. At least if there was a timeline, you could see the 'activity' your friends are doing, post text/comments, upload photos, etc. Making the mobile apps more interactive and informative (mainly friends activities) would give the members a reason to use it.

When you say the "upcoming version", are you referring to D8? Or something sooner like 7.1.5, or 7.2 (or somewhere in that ball park)?

They mean the upcoming version of the mobile app. The one they are updating right now (ver. 1.7)

Dolphin Join form is customisable. In many cases custom-added fields are essential for the site. This often means that the form is long. Long forms, especially with security images, don't fit well into mobile app interface and if even if (when) we finally make it, it would have to be a web version pulled into the app.

The catch is that many web-masters here think that join within the app is required only because they know about their sites and test the mobile app as "pretend users". In reality, mobile app itself never happens to the discovery medium. People download it only if they have already been to the site, and in most cases, already joined it. Why would they download it otherwise?

I know it sounds like a big deal - NO JOIN FORM - but when you consider actual use-cases it's not as important as it sounds. Having said that, we do realise that we would have to add it at some point.

Now, Facebook sign-up/login is another thing - besides being an easy and quick way to sign up it also makes a nice system-wide identificator that keeps you logged in (and logged out of, if need be) to many services. Integration of FB login into mobile OSs makes it a lot more useful. Also, you don't have to like Facebook to be able to utilise FB-login without losing your dignity ;) just register an account and never befriend anyone.

Examples!    Tested with Galaxy s3, Note 2, Galaxy s2, and HTC 1 s and x.

1: Photo uploads on a galaxy 3 or a note 2 from the gallery crash the app all the time!

2: Location Crashes the app all the time

3: Scrolling thru pics Crash the app alot!

4: Login Screen flickers like its going to crash as it logs in.

I would love to just see the app work at least for 20 mins without crashing on the stuff that is suppose to already work!

1: click on photos then click on the album then click on the + then click on gallery and select a pic and the app crashes on all updated android devices that we have tested but if you use camera it works fine.

2: this is known

3: click on a member and scroll thru there photos it is usually like the 4th or 5th one and the  app crashes on the 4 android devices i listed

4: its like the login is going 2 fast and it flickers like it is going to crash but does not.

Speed up Dolphin mobilization !!!

Have you heard app Wechat fromTencent company, China with more than 300M users as daily instant communication tools.

I'm playing these days and it really a cool app with all these functions from the cell phone without going to website, register using cell phone number and email, AV chat, text and voice message, add photo albums and upload photos, add group, find and request friends, just name some of them.

Dolphin website has most of these functions as Wechat has, and may be functioning better than Wechat(I didn't do the comparison one by one). The Dolphin need to speed up mobilization for most of the functions website has.

So does the app Line from Japan.

I believe Boonex app is quaint, I bought 3 prime over the years the market is moving very fast and technology are changing way to fast. I don't mind pay an extra $500 or even $1500 for an app from boonex as long the app has all the interesting feature and ready to use. Boonex should make the app friendly and easy for people to find join easily and fun to use.

It does not make sense to me paying developers at boonex market $630.10 trying to connect missing pieces together and most of the time they can't even finish the job.

I strongly believe Boonex should charge more $$$$ for the app therefore; they will have enough to hired more great developers to come up with something breathtaking.

The reason we are all here is to replace facebook, wechat and generate some $$ money.  is it even possible with what we have now? I guess time will tell. I wish that I have another 100 years to live.

Quote · 30 Jul 2013

I agree with BoucheTalk's oppion

Dolphin is one of pioneers of social tools creator, far beyond Wechat and Line and has a lot cool functions on website. But today is the mobile era, so must be Dolphin. I have my fist smartphone last November. Since then, I barely logged in to my website to view the contents except to create photo albums, upload videos, but view my website contents from my smartphone every where.

Compared to upload 10 seconds video from smartphone(well, better than nothing), others such as login, AV chat, voice message, create photo album and groups are more important and attractive.

We need a timeline, so when you log in you get a snapshot of whats been happening, similar to facebook and also twitter where you can see activity from your friends.

I have been asking for that since the mobile apps came out. It's not user friendly when someone has to go 'searching' for new content. If Anton can build a 'site wall' to show all activity on a Dolphin site, I'm sure that BoonEx will figure our how to integrate the Timeline that is displayed on your account page (friends activities) into the mobile apps with ability to post... or at least I hope so.
