Migrate 8GB site to dedicated

Hi

I have a 1.6.4 website at hostgator shared and want to transfer it over to a dedicated and uppgrade it ti D7 and install rms but hosgator dont let me take backup of such big site.

So how could I transfer that big site? Can I download it in parts from ftp then uppload to my dedi? will it work like that?

I just want to move my 8gb of 6.1.4 site over to the server where I have a new fresh D7 installed. Or is it a way to use the migration script to transfer my 1.6.4 site located at another host?

Hostgator will move it for you if upgrading your account. They did my site. Not nearly as large as yours, but as it would be within the network, the size is no skin off their nose.

It is not an uppgrade within hostgator.. I have my dedicated hosted at another company with webmin and my current hostgator acont is shared with cpanel

I tried to use the classic cpanel backup manager that creates .tar but when I try to create backup it says that my account is to big and I can not backup this on shared plan

You may have to use Php_Admin to incrementally backup your database. It can be done. The problem you are running into is with everything being php based, time & size limits kick in.

You can easily FTP your public_html directory to your desktop so the only problem should be the database.

If you have a dedicated server then do what prolaznik said, ssh (or telnet into the server) and gzip the entire website folder and download that as your backup of the site itself.  Use cpanel to backup the database and your done.
