Membership Module - not upgrading after they pay?

After going through several membership mod upgrades, I'm back to the default Dolphin Module. I've set up Paypal to take payments, and set up all of my membership levels. Just had the first one processed through the Module itself.

Looks like payment processed BUT it didn't assign them to the new membership level that they paid for - they're still showing as Promotional. This is a big prob since it looks to them like the payment process failed. Is there something I have to fix in the databases to get the payments from the Membership Module to actually trigger updating their Membership Level?

Also, if I have to manually upgrade the memberships - I need to be able to figure out how they're labeling the levels. Paypal says the payment is for "Item #6" - but no where is anything designated with "Item #6"! I've looked at everywhere the membership levels are listed and none of them correspond and I've looked in the database and there's no ID for 6 (the various membership mods means that I've had to add, delete, readd, edit the membership levels an insane number of times). So my questions on this part are twofold:

Can I edit the way it shows up on Paypal's end so it corresponds w/ what shows up on my Admin panel or database?

or

Can I edit the way it shows up on the Admin Panel so it corresponds w/ pp?

Quote · 30 Apr 2011

Okay, found a way to discover what the transaction was for: Admin Panel>Modules>Payments>Pending Orders>More. So there is a way to track down the membership level that was purchased since it isn't showing it automatically and isnt' updating membership automatically.

But I'm still hoping there's a way to

  1. automatically process the order & membership upgrade after purchase; and
  2. control the designation (i.e. edit "Item 6" to something that makes sense).

On the "More" popup there's a section that is currently blank titled "Order ID" - so I think there has to be a way to set up order tracking, I just can't find it.  Anyone?

Has anyone gotten the membership payments working correctly?

Quote · 2 May 2011

Srsly? No one knows how to edit the "ITEM" designation assigned to paypal

OR

how to make the paypal payments automatically integrate w/ the membership module?

Epic FAIL.

i have the same problem....
--Germany-- Sorry for my bad english :P

I personally have never got this feature to work on any of the versions.

I will tell you that there is NO automated process. It is a manual procedure where you as the admin, have to manually go in  and approve all your members while they sit and wait wondering why after paying, that they are not granted access.

This sentance says nothing, and its possibly spellt wrong.

I have same issue, I posted elsewhere and have been told to do the following

You should enable the IPN or PDT in your paypal settings.

Not done it yet, on my todo list today!

Hopefully this will fix it?

Anyone has any solution to this?

Working on a sms payment gateway and i'll have the same problem since i'm just extending the payment gateway with another pay to charge the users. I'll see how I handle the orders from pending to complete and upgrade the users.

Coding it, i got it very clear how to do it, but i would hate myself if i did not do it 'the dolphin' way since there is functions for this tasks.

The gateways should have tick boxes atleast for Module ID 2 (Membership) so the payment module could automatic confirm payments and upgrade users to the level they bought...

Quote · 30 May 2011

I'm a bit stumpled here since my gateway uses most of the code from 2Checkout except for some changes for my sms payment gateway but i just finished the first step to code the gateway on dolphin side and a 'sms payment portal' where i sent back confirmation that the order was ok and now my test user have 29 days left and are a premium user, the order is as well confirmed so .. don't ask me but the hole process seems to be working perfectly..

I belived that as many have written that the order will be in pending state and that you have to confirm it manually and then the user have to upgrade themself, in this case it just simple work.. i simple dont like it when it's to easy made.. must be something i have missed ..

Atleast i'm very happy it works for my own stuff ;)

Can you help me if I need it please. The membership upgrade should be automatic, no manual procedure. If admin has to approve then at least a message should be posted to the member that payment is received and it is in process of approval.

Quote · 30 May 2011

I can't tell you, all I can verify is that if data is returned to the return / respons url with the complete data the order seems to be completed and the user get approved automatic - so indeed it works (as it should)

It would be nice if a dev from Boonex could make some kind of statement how it should work and if a user gets upgraded to the level he purchased, and if so, i assume there is some incomplete parameters sent back to dolphin that makes the order incomplete and the user won't be automatic upgraded.

I'm still very new to Dolphin software so i feel that i can't verify how the way it is supposed to work, but indeed we all agree that membership should be activated directly after a purchase.

Need some assistance from boonex on this. Myself and others have been posting about this topic for a loooong time and each post goes by unsolved.

Seems that lots of people are having problems with this but its not getting looked at.

Should be simple procedure.

Unfortunately the way it is setup - it is not.

The reason you are not getting help, is because this subject has been going on in excess. Try a search

And read several different threads, not just one or two.

Well I am very upset that NO ONE at Boonex has even addressed the MAJOR shortcomings of the default payment system for memberships. It is simply unbelievable that a member based system CANNOT process a damn transaction without an admin manually passing it through.

So, I created my first ever ticket (http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/2528) - hopefully this will be addressed ASAP.

Also, there is another flaw in the Payment module when members return to the site.  A ticket has been created as well: http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/2379

Okay, let's see if we can't get these talented programmers to shift into high gear and make these critical changes for the next release.

Okay folks...after raising this issue directly with Andrew Boon, the wheels got greased and the issue has been resolved!

http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/2528

I applied the changes made by Anton, and everything worked perfectly.  Please note on the comment made regarding memberships:

"Note. The membership level will be added immediately after the payment was done if you have Standard membership level only. By default Dolphin has 'Promotion' membership level enabled. So, all newly joined members have Promotion membership level. If member already has some non-standard membership level then newly purchased membership level will be applied when the current one is expired."

I did test this with members who had already passed their trial period and were listed as having a "standard" membership.  Once purchasing a membership, their status was immediately changed and all is good!

Anyway, hope this good news puts a smile on your face Smile

Cheers - Jethro

I keep going through the files to see if I made a mistake, I am sure that the real problem is that I am using 7.0.0 for that site, but because of changes like this that I cant upgrade. I am no programmer, and I have bought modules for this site, and have changed a lot of code.

any help on this would be great.

Thanks,

I understand your frustration!!!

My things are working as we speek.

You have to enable paypal for the IPN !! Yes you have to for letting the membership to upgrade by it self.

" ITEM " hmmm ... thats worse...

I have done it by language strings. = EX... I have quite few membership-levels but I call it by one name only. " Membership "

Try and put the name of your content in this language file ---

_payment_txt_username_administrator      ( and call it what your product are ) ex membership.

the next language file to edit is = _payment_txt_shopping_cart   ( just make a " . " period sign in it )

I hope it helps you alittle.

Why do the solutions always end up being a module for sale in the market?

Has this been address in the default payment module for .07?

The PDT setting did not work for me (that was what I had set when it wasn't working - all payments were set to "pending" instead of auto-upgrading), however when I switched to IPN the upgrades became automatic and ended up in the processed orders section.

_payment_txt_username_administrator -> Currently it's set to "Administrator" and shows up in the email (see below) as who the payment went to, which I don't want to change.

_payment_txt_shopping_cart -> what will the "." do? R "'s cart" in it, leading me to think that this setting titling their shopping cart won't change what I see.

What I'm seeing now is:

Payment to: Administrator
Item# 40

The Administrator part is fine, what I can't seem to find out what "Item# 40" relates to in the code and/or database. Each membership level has its own Item #, but where do I find these? I've been keeping track of them manually as people purchase different levels, searching out which membership level shows up in the payment section of the admin panel and searching out which item number this relates to in the corresponding payment in my paypal records. As more membership levels are purchased, I'm filling in the puzzle a little at a time. But unless someone actually purchases a membership level, I can't do this time-consuming detective work to find out what the corresponding item # is for a membership level.

This seems like an incredibly inefficient way to do this. It would be miles easier if I could just find them in the database.

P.S. I tried martinboy's module and it didn't work out for our site (there were just a few cosmetic glitches and we couldn't get it to work w/ the invite only settings which we have to use)
