Membership Levels on Join, Still an Issue? Really?

I'm a new paid "want-a-be" developer using 7.1

I have seen these same or at least very similar questions asked as far back as 1255 Days ago. The root of the questions seems to always get morphed into some other issue or as one user said... the post was "hijacked." lol

These two questions are at the heart of my current issues. I can't seem to find a definitive answer (ok... or at least one that made sense to me):

1) Is there a way to have new members / non members, be forced to select a membership level during the signup process? As in a non member HAS To SELECT one of my four membership types, in order to gain access past the home page?

2) Is there a way prevent a new member from gaining Standard Membership access, by default? It seems counter intuitive to allow them Standard access... when all I might then to have is the "Guest" or "Trial" access.

I have four membership types:

Guest (free for ONLY 24 hours non renewing)

Trial (paid for 7 days non renewing)

Gold (basic access to most features except store creation, Monthly, auto renews)

Biz (basic access to all features including store creation Monthly, auto renews)

I didn't want to have to use the at least two of the default memberships levels at all (Promotional & Standard)

The "non-member" account I suppose if I had to I could use... but I had wanted to call it a "Guest Account" and grant it a one day, limited access pass.

The only way I can even see the memberships that I created, is if I click on the "My Memberships" menu link and it takes me to the (yourwebsite.com /m/membership/index) page... And that is only after I signed up and received the default STANDARD level access... I don't want to give them the default STANDARD at all~!

I have to admit that it is surprising to me that this NOT a new question in these forums... But IT IS One that doesn't seem to have ONE simple, and definitive answer.

Why is that?

Well there are two issues that can't be corrected.

The non-member(guest) level. Most people do not understand what that level means. And i am not sure you do either. A non-member(guest) is a person who is not a member of your site. They do not have an account. Problem is that dolphin uses guest as a configuration option on the site to mean a non-member so creating a membership level also called guest is going to conflict with the built in non-member level.

The problem is both the non-member(guest) and standard levels are required. It would take a complete rewrite of dolphin to change it. So that is why it has not been addressed. It simply cannot be done right now. Not without a few hundred hours of re-programming.

As for selecting membership on join, i believe i saw a mod for that in the market awhile back, so i think that has been done.

That really sucks!... Like I said... this is not some NEW issue it seems to have been around for quite some time now!

Yes there is one... Last week I found a mod and its called: Paypal_On_Join_Osho_71_V2...

For the life of me... I can't get it to work... and I can't find any help here in the forums, on installing it. I dont know why I didn't try this sooner... but I have just now... as in stopped for a moment writing this note to you and emailed the developer who created it. His name is "browserweb"  I asked for his help on the install. We'll see what happens now. I guess I was just hoping that I would get it to work on my own, or would find solace in the forums, without having to ask him... Who invariably is going to ask for access creds to my site... I have major reservations when developers say... "I can help you... whats your username and password!" lol

And just as I was afraid of...  here is what the developer replied back with:

-----------------------------------------

"Hi,

Yes, normally I get an email like yours asking about any issues first.

What's the website login info for Osho and cPanel(with PHPMyAdmin access) and FTP details?

I'll take a look.

Cheers"

---------------------------------------

So now I ask... Is there a way to easily change my database user and & password settings in D 7.1 so that I can give this guy my info. That way, when he is done, I can change it to something new for added Security?
