Membership Levels

AM I understanding this correctly:

If I leave Pricing empty for a created membership, does this make way for only the admin to assign this membership to someone?

And

I'm asked to select a and order number.

What significance does this order number play?

I'm not sure if I can mess things up here. I don't want to mess things up by just throwing whatever number in there, I did although make the admin membership level with all possible options selected order number 10

Can someone tell me how that impacts things down the road?

for all intents and purposes membership levels are designed to be created for a fee. i have requested many times that outside of their standard membership level, which has no pricing attached, that we be able to create membership levels that can be obtained for a fee or for free.

to answer this question. if you create a membership level, and there is no price prescribed, then that membership should be obtainable by all members who wish to have access to that membership level since it has no fee.

if you wish to assign a member to any particular membership level, free or fee based, you can do so while logged in as admin, click on members, click on the members name, and navigate to the members profile where you can (as admin) assign them to whatever membership level you have created.

You can have several membership levels and yiou can charge or have them free if you use the membership vouchers mod. This will allow you to issue codes for each membership level. Codes can be FREE or anywhere between 1-99% of the subscriptuion price of the level.

I am currently using this method to load my site. All members can currently use a code to upgrade to any level for free before the site goes live. It saves me a huge amount of work having to do all this from the back end.

It works like a charm.

If you want to have a membership that your members can't choose, but that only you can assign from the Admin side, go into your database. Find sys_acl_levels. Click "edit" next to the level you want to set up. Find "Purchasable" and select "no."

And I just looked at order number, I think this is new in the latest upgrade - it's something I've been WAITING for!! It allows you to order how the memberships show up to your members here: http://yoursite.com/m/membership/index

JEEZ! FINALLY! LOL- I figured it dawned on me what that "Qoute" button does. Guess that why I'm the UnderDog LOL

Ok- This is what I hoped it was. I'm hoping that the "10" I gave the membership level I assigned is a good move then? But yet I'm still confused...

I disabled Promotional and the first NEW level that I created myself I named Advanced. It didn't dig me trying to give that an order of "0" and said to enter 1 or above. So I thought to myself "How should I figure in the promotional one I disabled?" So to be on the safe side (Not sure what to do) I gave it level 4 because there was visitor, promotional, and standard by default.

See how my mind processes stuff?

Hope that doesn't sound idiotic....it's simply ignorance.

But I'm still lost-

I did at first just to test, assign a 5$ 30-day value to the Advanced Membership level. But I was also able to assign that level from the admin panel the way Dos mentioned. It also showed that membership as an obtainable on according to ggsinc's comment. Then I deleted that pricing and left no pricing and it no longer showed as obtainable but I could use Dos's example to assign it.

My question is, when I set the order, and assign pricing, does this mean that when they pay the system will make the changes for me?

Once I setup paypal with my information of course.

That seems safe to assume.

But what if I have a points system?

Then this order that I set them...does this impact things?

I don't want people to reach the level of admin through points

I don't want that obtainable

see how it is getting confusing for me?

If a person posts your code to the internet somewhere, does it mean that anyone can use it?

I mean I guess that's good too....

Is it setup so that that code can't be reapplied to the same account over and over to allow a mamber to never purchase that level?

Yes, the payment of membership will lead to automatic upgrade (if you us the IPN method and everything goes according to plan). You'd have to ask the Points module designer to find out how that works.

LOL! Revisiting this post.....totally cracking up at my naive noob comments....

For all you noobs out there- it would be wise to learn the database, and this stuff will make a lot more sense.
