Member menu & RSS Feeds not showing up

I can't seem to have a normal issue.

Around the same time the member menu bar disappeared I lost all feeds that come in to my site. I pull several feeds from MANY different sources, even some of the internal feeds from the forum, and blog of my site aren't showing up - just the spinning wheel. I'm assuming that the Member Menu bar disappearing & the Feeds are some how related. I have gone in and attempted to put the bar at the top of the page, normally its at the bottom, and no luck. It is selected.

Any ideas?

http://www.285social.com is the site. So far I don't see the feeds maybe you will.

As always, thanks for your time.

Hi Jay

I think that extra mumbo jumbo is coming from Cloudflare - But I am not 100% sure on that. I was actually going to post about that, if anyone else's install of Dolphin does that, so I'm going to guess that that isn't normal huh?

As for the poll and shout, I just assumed that was what it was supposed to look like, I hadn't gotten around to messing with the code there.

I had a few things that I just took off, a few .js scripts to see if they are breaking the code some where. But I really have no clue.

I wonder if anyone else is using Cloudflare out there and can see if my issues stem from that. Really, when it comes down to it all Cloudflare does is add some functions, minor site enhancements and such...it also blocks countries, IP's etc etc which if it is causing the funky URLS and busting the code so I can't get the lower member menu bar, or the RSS feeds I'll just shut it off and edit my .htaccess.

I don't have normal issues with my Dolphin install  ;-)

The poll and shout box stuff has me concerned now.

I haven't touched those since starting the site. Any ideas on what would cause those two things to get whacked like that? And where I need to go to fix them, and if not fix at least look over the code?

Also any thoughts on those two things being "busted" for lack of a better word effecting the rss feeds?

So far I have removed JS that I added to the footer with exception of google analytic stuff. Trying to work thru any additional stuff I added recently. But like I said I haven't touched shout & poll at all. Turned them on and that was that.

I've also gone in and check at least 10 different feeds that I am using and they are all working fine.

STUMPED!

completely off topic but...

I noticed your google ad on the polls page and you have added a little note to surfers..

"Clicking these ad's helps support this site. Show some love n' click 'em! We would really appreciate it!"

This is taken from adsense guidelines policy.

In order to ensure a good experience for users and advertisers, publishers participating in the AdSense program may not:

  • Compensate users for viewing ads or performing searches, or promise compensation to a third party for such behavior.
  • Encourage users to click the Google ads using phrases such as "click the ads", "support us", "visit these links" or other similar language.
  • Direct user attention to the ads using arrows or other graphical gimmicks.
  • Place misleading images alongside individual ads.
  • Place ads in a floating box script.
  • Format ads so that they become indistinguishable from other content on that page.
  • Format site content so that it is difficult to distinguish it from ads.
  • Place misleading labels above Google ad units. For instance, ads may be labelled "Sponsored Links" or "Advertisements", but not "Favourite Sites" or "Today's Top Offers".

Jesus!

What do you suppose would be causing that???? I've done everything I can do to make sure the site is secure, and I certainly ain't trying to pull any scams!!!

Any ideas?

I'm starting to think Cloudflares part of the problem. I may just shit can it and see what happens. I havent seen anything like that ever on my site, but I am going to check in to that right now.

If it isnt one thing..........

What browser were you using when you saw that Houston?

Ok, so I just hit my site using a different IP and using Firefox, Camino, Chrome, Safari, and Maxthon and I couldnt get it to show me that warning. I'd like to be able to repeat it so I can track down whatever the hell would cause that to happen! Thats got me concerned! Big time.

To add insult to injury, the purpose of my original post - the RSS FEEDS, they are showing up on Firefox and Maxthon but not in Camino Safari or Chrome. Im on a mac and I havent tried it on IE yet. So I don't know what to make of THAT!

I did shut down the polls and the shout a while a go. I also cleared cache on all the browsers, within the dashboard and from the server via FTP ( Filezilla )

I gotta say, I shouldn't be having as many issues as Ive been having, did all of you guys go thru any crap like this? Is this par for the course or......

Appears to be just Trend Micro antivirus.  Could be a false positive.

I have run a number of online scanners that check websites and all show your site is clean. So i don't think you have anything to worry about.

Can that Cloudflare caching be turned on and off at will?

Narrowing down a problem when something is in the middle complicates things.

Anyhow, i designed this to test for problems related to facebook connect, but the 3 tests it does would also apply to RSS feeds as well if any of the tests fail, so see this post and run the test script i attached there. http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/Test-script-for-curl-fopen-and-gethostbyname.htm

I have tried in both firefox and IE and i do not see your feeds in either one.

Another thing to try. Go into admin->tools->host tools in the audit tab. Anything showing a problem?

Also go into admin->settings->Advanced setttings->templates and if js compression is turned on, shut it off.

Deano, thanks.

I already put the coffee on to stay up all night to get to the bottom of this crap, so thats a least a little piece of good news. I'd still like to know what would trigger that.

Yes, you can turn off and on caching with cloud flare. Altho, I gotta say - I am starting to think it isnt worth the trouble. Really, a quick htaccess edit here and there will do the trick for all that cloudflare does, at least for my needs.

Since I plan on burning the mid night oil I will head over and check your script out. It is at least something! I've been at my wits end with this latest issue.

Believe me, I do appreciate the assistance. Thank you.

I do have:

memory_limit = 67108864 - FAIL (must be >= 134217728)

And a bunch of warnings about the PHP accelerator - for some reason I remember shutting them off, but I forget why.

Thoughts on that?

in addition the warnings are:

  • magic_quotes_gpc = On - WARNING (should be = Off)
  • memory_limit = 67108864 - FAIL (must be >= 134217728)
  • post_max_size = 10485760 - WARNING (should be >= 52428800)
  • upload_max_filesize = 10485760 - WARNING (should be >= 52428800)
  • php accelerator = NO - WARNING (Dolphin can be much faster if you install some php accelator))
  • DB cache = On (File based cache engine) - WARNING (installing php accelerator will speed-up file cache)
  • Page blocks cache = On (File based cache engine) - WARNING (installing php accelerator will speed-up file cache)
  • Member menu cache = On (File based cache engine) - WARNING (installing php accelerator
  • php setup = cgi-fcgi - WARNING (your PHP setup maybe very inefficient, please check it for sure and try to switch to mod_php, apache dso module or FastCGI)

whats weird is, the RSS feeds were loading fine - and Polls and Shout were fine, seemed like everything fell apart and Im not sure how - I hadnt worked on the site in a few days.

The Trend Micro warning my be a false positive, but anyone with TM installed that tries to view your site, will likely get the same warning.  You might want to contact TM, and ask them why you have that rating.

There's always some kind of crap to deal with.  I've recently discovered that some spammer is using my primary email address as the 'Reply to' address.  Nothing like getting a few dozen hate mails each day  from the recipients.   While investigating my own email address, I stumbled upon my current email address, along with the correct password, in a 18MB text file on a server with thousands of other email addresses and passwords.  The best I can tell, the email address data was hacked from Yahoo.  I don't recall any news about Yahoo being hacked, but I'm 99% sure that's where the data came from.  All this data is on a server in Amsterdam, so I'm not quite sure what to do about it.

That sucks!

That's happened to me as well a while back. I made an auto responder that pretty much said I wasn't the spammer and included the raw header data, well most of it. And also said that I would be changing my email address - so legit people emailing me would expect a change. Its a pain in the ass but what other choice do you have really, right? Other than a trip to Amsterdam, and murder! Laughing

Deano, thank you - seemed your tips helped clear up the RSS issue. That was driving me batty! Thank you.
I do still have the one issue, Jay mentioned in his post that my site is adding a funky series of characters at the end of the URL ( #.UDkHDalTvA7 if what I am currently seeing at the end of my URL) Anyone else seeing that?

Anyone seen this before on their site or another, or know what would be causing it? I've shut down most of Cloudflares apps, and I am a little concerned about what would be causing that to appear. I haven't added anything weird. All I really have going on are a few tweaks to get iframe & flash to work, a banner rotation script which is just a couple lines of js in the footer and google adsense. Maybe a few other thinks like addme code. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Thanks again for the input.

Ya know, in addition to the URL issue, occasionally I get a 404 as follows...

"404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. "

Again, I think its cloudflare. So I think the only obvious thing to do is can it. Just wanted to know if anyone else out there has used Cloudflare and has seen any of these issues before I do. Hate to see it go as some of the apps you can run are kind of perfect for the site. But whateva

Sorry for taking this post all over the map with my issues. Figured I'd try to knock them all out while I have peoples attention. If y'all want, I guess I could start separate posts for all these issues. Just say the word.
