I just wanted to let everyone know that I posted a very simple MySQL script in the Market that will set the Profile Photo field on the Join as a "required" field. Its just a script with a small set of instructions, so it will probably take you longer to login to your cPanel than set this. And yes, its Free. I dont see any reason to charge for a script...
This was one of my biggest gripes about Dolphin's join process when I first started using it. I think it looks horrible with a bunch of bland default photos as a member's profile picture. I personally would like to see a picture of them or at least something else beside the default gray yucky thing.
There was a huge topic about this when D7 first come out and it took an act of congress before Alex jumped in a fixed the issue.
Funny thing is, since D 7.0.1, the files are coded to properly check if the profile photo is mandatory or not BUT there is no way to set the field as mandatory in the Admin Panel.
I have tested this on a D7.0.2 install, but looks to work on D7.0.1 also. Enjoy!

thanks Chris, any chance to writing it as a mod or is it just not that important. i know there was much discussion about the mandatory photo being required, and of course in the planet of where they just dont care, and would rather add BS like cool iris, there are many things that make dolphin great, then there are others that make it as useless as tits on a boar hog.

click on Chris's username this opens his profile, then look at the link to products he has in the market. since he said he listed it in the market, you should be able to find it there.

Sounds like a great idea but I would like to say one thing. Every time you 'require' something, your click thru rate increases. You need to balance your 'requirements' against your perceived new member numbers. One way to reduce the ugly missing avatar problem is to reduce the amount of pages those lists of avatars appear on.
It also might be better to script your site to hide the avatars that don't exist. This would have the effect you are looking for without adding another 'requirement' to an already too long join form. That's what I did on my site. If they don't have an avatar, they don't appear anywhere outside of their profile/account page.

is working fine but people can still skepp thet croping pagel for the
avatar
Can you provide instructions on how to make the Uploaded Photo on the
Join Page automatically the Avatar without the member having to scroll
all the way down on the second page to crop the Avatar? This would be really nice.

I was searching for how to set photo as a mandatory field, and found this old thread. Zarcon, I couldn't find your script (the link is broken). Does it still work on 7.1 version, or there's now some other soultion to set this?
Thanks!

Chris, as usual you are the one to turn to when there is a problem :-)
I'm running the 7.1.0 in mirror mode on my server now, I'll try this solution to set the mandatory photo when joining. As I do not set the auto enable mode on profile joining, I hope this will work.
