Making the Mouseover Links Permanant

Have folks complaining that the mouseover links disappear with the slightest movement of the mouse and making it difficult to click Groups then scroll down to the sub-links.

I'd like to make these permanant or fix them where they are more prominant or static.

Any suggestions?

hi OpenRiver
please avoid double posting, also have you tried using the search bar above or reading other forum posts (I understand you are on a deadline)?

Also you will find that your community members will soon get use to the navigation bar otherwise I think it can be adjusted in one of the javascrpit files in the template folder

you weren't being ignored ...while I was replying to your first post you went and added a second post, look at the thread there is a one min time difference.

With regards to 2. thats sometimes to due browser needing refreshing, also have members been deleted?

By repeat posting you are driving down other people's posts, so they may get missed and thus not answered.

If you going searching for answers you will probably find that you take more in...instead of being "spoon fed".

BTW I'm the on on the right in my profile picture.

When members ask a question they want an answer, that’s why they are asking a question.

Provide them with that answer, if you can.

If you don’t know, don’t tell them to search.

If it’s a question that has been asked a million times, find the tutorial and link to it.

People may ask the same question over and over again - that’s natural.

Help each other in a respectful and not in a condescending way....that is Unity.

You fixed the menu bar problem (or at least yours is working on my browser).  I would be interested as may other members on how you did that.  It will also help all of us answer similar questions as they come up.

Openriver, I looked at your site with FF 3  and IE 7.  Everything worked ok for me.  The mouseover problem must be something that manifests itself with certain browsers. I know that's a pretty lousy response that you hear a lot around here, and it's not much immediate help, but different browser versions can make a huge difference in how pages are rendered if the script is not coded properly for a given browser version.  There are pages on this very site that don't display right in IE7 and the D7 test site is horrible in IE.

Have you asked the users having the problem what browser/version they were using?  There could be a bug in the script that causes this behavior, and the problem will need to be duplicated to troubleshoot it.  I know users get annoyed if you start asking them to help troubleshoot your own website... they just want it to work.  If you don't want to bother your users, an alternative would be to look at your server logs and make a note of the different user agents accessing your site.

A site I use a lot for seeing how a page is rendered in different browsers is http://browsershots.org/ ... not much help with your situation though.

Wish I had a better answer.

Hi Lianne,

Im guessing your users are expecting the submenu to stay after they have moused-out of the sub-link area, its a little difficult to explain, but without staying within the box below the menu it will default back to the sub links of the highlighted menu tab, so infact there is no error just users rushing around.

If you are planning to redesign your site i can recommend this alternative menu which is very well written and keeps everything the same in the menu builder in admin, or theyre are other menus by the same author....but keep in mind dolphin 7 will be released in the next coming months.

You can also change the submenu so that it isn't transparent by editing ./templates/tmpl_uni/css/index.css

Look for the .submenu entry and change the color to whatever you like.

Interesting menu by Aramis, but when I looked at the demo, it didn't work.  The dropdown appeared below the promo images.

You can change the setting for the submenu to stay visible in ./inc/js/jquery.dolTopMenu.js

The timing is set on line 28. Default is 100. Increase it and the submenu will show for as long as you like.

Thing is, when I looked at the site, the timing was fine, and the menu worked just like every other dolphin site I have seen.  That's why I wonder if there is some specific version of some browser in which the problem occurs.

It could be the promo block causing it too.

If a person runs their mouse over multiple buttons while the promo image is changing it causes a flicker. At least it did on my computer. (I have lots of crap running right now)

If that's the problem, it's most likely their graphics/processor trying to catch up that's causing it. So it would really be the computers problem, not the site. But it's an issue that can be avoided.

Disabling the promo block might help fix the problem.

(Side note: This is one of the reasons I posted the link to that javascript creator in the blog area. The script they had didn't back my computer up the same way that the current promo block in Dolphin does. I can't exactly quantify what the difference is but perception is everything really.)

thanks for all the help gang.

ive looked around at other dolphin sites..used chrome and ie for browswers and yes, some of the browsers just have difficulty with the mouseovers.

and sorry if i was short..im on a major deadline (just got pushed up) and i haven't even begun to figure out the graphic customization of the site yet.

/no sleep
