MP3 Sales

I am looking to have my members sell MP3s on my site, is this possible?  I would like to earn a commission on the sales as well.

sell mp3's are these illegal downloads? lady just got fined $1.4 million dollars for downloading 20 songs from kaazaa

you need to make sure your members have resell rights on those files. as for your commissions on sales, possibly just setup a membership level that allows the sale of products, charge for the membership level, limit the number of items they can sell by membership. increase the membership fee if they wish to sale more products.

lol, they'd be selling their own music.  My target market is indie artists.

ok. might want to look at jamroom and see about getting bigguy to integrate with dolphin. it provides for sales, and provides the artist a profile, and a ton of other features. would be a great wrap with dolphin.

LimeWire is a bit different from what's going on here. LimeWire is (it's still being developed) a P2P filesharing client using the Gnutella network where you can download content from other people without any fees. Sometimes what's downloaded is legal, sometimes (a lot) it's not. It's decentralized, unlike this. And in this case, it's legal, since according to OP, it's indie artists selling their own music.

I second DosDawg's recommendation of finding a currently successful music service provider and finding a way of integrating their service into Dolphin.

Maybe I am reading this wrong but I think this person is saying that the members on his site are "Indie Artists" who would like to sell their own mp3s on his website. However I could be wrong..

Even that, you still may run into other issues later on with copyright, one person buys the song and shares it with their friends, etc.. Not sure I would recommend allowing your members to sell this type of material that can be easily abused. And since you are hosting it, it all come down to your responsibility.

Nothing to see here

Hey guys, thanks for your input and concerns, and I feel what you all are saying.  Zarcon's right, these are going to be indie artists that I personally approach.  I want to keep a strict hold on the growth of this site and stick with the artists that just want their music out there to get their name out.  I'll make sure they are aware of this - not only verbally but also in writing.  I know that a bunch of these artists are getting abused by their current situation and just need to get play.  I'm approaching it less as a file sharing website and more as a high volume, low yield label that can be used as a stepping stone (for now).  I've got bigger plans in the near future and just have to show proof of concept to the funders.  If anyone's got any specific advice for me (like DosDawg, thanks, by the way.  I'll check it out) please private message me.

I'm actually looking for someone to do this for me.  If there's anybody who can give me a rough idea of how much this will cost, please let me know.  This will be coming out of my own pocket but if there is someone who can provide me with this expertise, then I'll be using them regularly.

It would have been much more effective to post this in the jobs section instead of bumping a bunch of very old threads.
