List your Module requests here!!!

Before anyone says - go and post in the jobs section...

Im not looking to pay someone to code these for me, just looking for an ideas thread for new modules. 

Who knows, someone may list an idea here that may make a developer lots of money! 

Maybe we need a feature on Boonex where we can vote for wanted modules? Good way to show developers which way the community is shifting and what is worth there time and effort to work on!??

Some modules I would like to see.

Group Wall. To show all activity within that group. Not just to show site activity by group members, but just activity within that group!

Chat to run on 2nd server. As it says, a mod that enables you to run the default Dolphin chat module but from a 2nd server so as not to share script resources.

Shared photo folders. Seen this one so many times in the forum... We need to be able to have shared folders that all users can upload into. The current photo mod is missing this KEY feature...!

Shared VIDEO folders + Files + Sounds... as above.

Auction mod. As it says. With the ability for admin to take a % of sale price.

Lighttpd video module. Dolphin video module is very slow to render and to initiate the video when you press play. I have a clip-share site where I have a built in lighttpd feature that allows users to skip through video / start anywhere without rendering first. This is key feature for videos. Also allows me to run my vids on a 2nd server, and then embed them anywhere in site. Unfortunately, any of my users uploading there own vids to dolphin get the slow D script version... Lighttpd please built in :-)

I would pay for all of these, if they were not default to dolphin 8 (hint hint) ;-)

Definately a good group wall is required.

Colaboration mod - To allow members of a group to colaborate on projects such as flowcharts, a white board, spreadheet and planner.

Virtual Interface - Have you seen "Club penguin" or "moshi monsters"? its no wonder they are raking in bucke tloads of cash. Some kind of virtual interface or navigation system where the user takes the form of a charactor and walks around the screen using areas on the screen to navigate. Modules and pages are represented by buildings or areas. The user walks into the cinema, they have videos. User walks into arcade that can play a game. User walks upto another member they can start a conversation.

Events registration & Ticketing mod - Allows members to set  and promote events, and sell printable sequential numbered  tickets to the event via the site. Abillity for a seating plan, meal requirements etc would be a huge bonus. users can then organise and promote events easily, see how many tickets have been sold. Payment will be into users paypal account minus a % for the site owner. We have many events organisers offering us massively discounted tickets, but we have no way to process this.

Psychic lottery prediction mod - Will give me, and no one else, the correct lottery numbers every week.

Im actually looking at a proper group wall, have a couple of offers from developers on the table.

Ticketing module would be a BIG feature, especially if it can be done on some sort of % basis...

 you should look into 123FlashChat

they have been schooled on dolphin integration

 the module "integration" is semi writen, contact brian he knows the ropes of dolphin. the hosting service or white label is not free

 ty dos,, i did look into 123 flash,, but was shocked at the total price once you throw in hosting and support,, paying over 1000 dollars for a new chat all together when my users love the rayz chat, they just want to be able to ignore seems kinda silly

i talked to ray already and he said he would try to include this mod on the next update, if not then i will force myself to take a crash course in flash.. was just hoping someone would do the work and sell it so i didnt have too

Rayzzz should be looking at flash free chat...

Have you looked at what % of FB users access their profiles using mobile devices these days?...

With most other Dolphin modules getting the mobile makeover, chat is the only one that currently simply will not work with iphones due to flash use.

There are alternatives but the chat integration of Rayzzz is good (I have the integrate with groups which is key for me...).

Just wish it was non flash! 

Also, it needs to allow to be hosted on an additional server, not the script server... incase of cam use.

The only problem that  can see with the group wall is that there could be a conflict with whichever other wassls you have running.

We have the spywall, but did not uninstall the standard booned wall from the server. There was a terrible conflict between the two, and when anyone tried to log in the spywall completely messed up to the point where the site was unuseable.

You would have to be sure that whichever wall was used on the site would not conflict with the groups wall.

I would only be looking at using the group wall, not profile wall so would hopefully work fine for me!

I did find the 'multi page builder' mod by scriptologist which has its own wall. 

Came close to using this instead of the groups module but I have Modzzz Premium groups which offers some other features that the pages one doesnt... 

Its a choice of add to premium groups which I already own, or purchase pages then pay again to add to that!

 PM me with your desired features/functionality for the Events and Ticketing mod. I have  a few requests for this kind of  mod.

Jerome, if you come up with a ticket mod, or integration with Premium Events, then I would purchase.

We need a local mod that will completely replace the functions required of outside thumbnail generators (like ShrinkTheWeb).

It should be able to go to an outside site, cap an image of the site and process and store the image for use on the local server.

me i want to see the iphone chat feature.. and maybe wth the webcam like facetime

also a signup button on the main screen of the dolphin iphone app

 modzzz... If you wish to colaborate, I will be happy toproduce a full detailed design spec for this module. we are qualified events organisers and have an in depth knowledge of events organisation, preperation and completion. We will include details for ticketing, booking, accomodation, catering etc.

All that we ask in return is a free install of the first version if it is released as a product.

Default "Search" feature should be improved!!!!

I've seen some search mods on the market but non of them is right on.

Dolphin should have a fast and simple way to search the site.

I would  like a block  wich when  a user login

it  shows    the list of users  who added   that user   as a friend

with link to accept  or  not  them

I think people wanting some of these features should consider posting a Job*.

*Under the Jobs area, not the forums.   You can also use oDesk.

What is wrong with discussing improvements and future mods?

Not everything has to go into "jobs" section and if I was a developer I would survey this forum every month to see what  Dolphin users need/want the most and develop it for them.

I don't see any fault in that.

Didn't say "WHAT ARE YOU DOING USE THE JOBS AREA THIS THREAD IS CLOSED BLARGH BLARGH!"  Petition developers and request new features, but realize that some of these suggestions (e.g., a Gmail clone) are not something a developer would normally undertake for a new module or mod.  For the advanced stuff, consider hiring a developer.

so I figured his intention was to have people come up with good ideas and maybe some developer will decide to do something with those ideas. That's all.

Hasn't stopped some people from suggesting stuff no sane developer would make.

I think building my psychic lottery prediction module is a perfectly sane idea.....

On a slightly more mad note..... I have a blueprint for a ticketing and booking system ready for any good developer to take it on. There is nothing on Dolphin yet with this functionality, so it would be a market first.

I thought Modzzz was on the ticketing mod a while ago, not seen anything yet though so maybe took a back burner.

Here's an idea I think would be more than useful for some sites...

Site photo albums.

Admin control to set them up, users can then upload into them as shared albums.

Would be great to integrate into groups also instead of just the one group photo section...

Some groups need a number of albums:-)

I think this thread is helpful, some ideas can be turned into job listings, but its also healthy to have a sounding place for mod development ideas. 

Aimed as much at site builders to get ideas, as much as mod developers to listen into what users are interested in!

Oh, nothing wrong with suggesting stuff like a new wall or psychic lottery.  But the stuff like a Gmail clone would require more than Dolphin.  And those willing to pay now for something would be better off hiring a developer and making the stuff available.

Agreed, sometimes its good to chat amongst users, as we can then chip in together on some jobs! 

not possible with plain php ... you need a backend that is rendering the website ...

 There is a free one floating around here in the forums for that.

may not be an actual module, as much as it is an overhaul:

actual admininstrative functionalities

i.e. assigning members to and managing moderation of the site

more options on the audio/video player, this rayzz gig is so stale, and lacking tremendously

av chat is stale, lacks managment, lacks functions and features the other chat systems are able to provide

a functional store

recurring membership payments from paypal, google checkout by default

fix or remove that matching system

fix or replace that security attack system

fix the modules so that they are using the same design elements as the rest of the site, and add the control functionality of changing anything from the admin panel

style modification from admin panel

RMS management from admin panel

fix news and articles so that members can utilize those features

allow admin to determine if the site is free or paid, and be able to rm any membership levels, and create and assign functions to any membership level

the biggest thing i would like to see boonex do, is start setting dolphin up so that it can be scaled, either conventionally or into AWS. 

i have asked about what is being done about scaling dolphin several times, only to be ignored. 

one prime example is jamroom.net when they wrote that script, they wrote it to cluster servers, so that script is scalable

when considering the scalability of dolphin, you can even upsell that as an addon module, and then allow the admnin to pick what to scale into any other given path locally or on the network, or externally. this is something that really needs to be done if dolphin intends to grow. 

1) The ability to order the categories to your liking.

Today it's ordered by number of items in the category + the category isn't shown if its empty.

It would be best if I could choose in which order the categories was shown. Then I could group them.

2) The ability to create sub-categories. This seems however not to be possible how Dolphin is currently built. Would have to go into a request for Dolphin 8.

One thing Iwould love would be a module that gives a member the ability to move profile blocks around for their own view of another members profile.

Example. If the Description block is filled in and visible, it is normally placed where the site admin has placed the block on the page. If member A is viewing member B's Profile, It would be nice if member A could move the block to a location that they want to see it in. It is okay if the settings for the viewing of member B's profile are saved as the view for all profiles.

This idea is based on a non social networking usage of Dolphin, so I know it is a little ackward. But to give a little explaination: I have created several blocks in which a Physician can keep track of their patients. My idea would make the usage more beneficial for the Physician cause it will give them the ability to align things the way they want to see them.
