Hi there,
We found it interesting to make a list of the most popular Dolphin based websites. The biggest sites we've come across are:
militaryromance.us - 42600 members
lovelandia.com - 26500 members
premiummatch.com - 26100 members
forsakencherry.com - 17800 members
Does anyone know other sites? We've probably overlooked a few obvious ones...

would that be a site about the Political hardcore punk Band from Norway
|
erm no, we are using Dolphin in a way its not been used before, these figures are at the bottom end of our expectations. We are aiming our "Rank and File" community website at only one of our markets at the moment but will aiming it at our other two shortly. If you are a disbeliever find our website community and watch it grow....

Unless you invest large amounts of money in advertising there is no way you'll be able to pull in 200 members per week and then 500 per week within 6 months. Don't get me wrong, I hope you can do it, but I don't see how you can get that many people that fast with the content you have made available.
I wish you luck.

OK coming back on topic we've been made aware of this site:
onenightstanddate.com - 30200 members
Anyone else?

ok i had to ask as i did a google search for "Rank and File" to see if i could find your site but everything referd to a political hardcore punk band.
I tend to agree with signalzero
To get that sort of figures will be hard to say the least. marketing of websites is tuff, iv'e been building sites for years i have one running at the mo, that has been running for nearly two years now, with all the seo in place i only have 20 members in the two years of opening the forum, and that is listed on all najor search engins, in top lists, on other websites, add words ect. And belive me ther is a big desire for my kind of forum. The game of building websites, opening them up and getting members is a long hard tiresome prosses.
But i wish you all the best in your venture anyhow, if you have a gole dont let me or anyone els talk you out of it, however we will be here to guide you should you need it.
P.S sorry about the spelling i dont seem to be able to find a spell check on this forum and im dislexic

I too have a dolphin site with a theme perfect to bring in loads of members. I've had the site live for about a Month and have about 200 members.
Now I've been spending multiple hours each day building up relationships with other sites in an effort to gain popularity and it is a tiresome, slow process. With that being said, I still could not imagine bringing in 200 + members each week unless I do some major advertising or until the site gets so big that word of mouth will keep it growing at an astronomical rate. Now I also did some heavy modding and some graphics tweaking in an effort to bring the members something new. You can view the site here: http://mygridironspace.com
I just don't see what YouDidntDidYou has to offer yet that would bring in so many new members. Again, I wish him all the luck in the world getting to that goal, but there has to be a plan he has in mind that maybe we don't know about yet.
I found the link to the site: http://youdidntdidyou.co.uk/
So YouDidntDidYou what's the secret?

This is a great list to see what you can do with dolphin.

hmmm they have many members but I was on the biggest site online and have checked how many members are online...
guess: zero.... hmmm I don't believe it..

hey signalzero thats a great looking site m8 real nice. anyway if this is like the topic says List of biggest Dolphin sites take a look at mine its still in build mode and not yet public but you can take a look here http://www.uk-giveaway.info/comunity/

We have something that they want and already have a good relationship with our customers, this won't involve any marketing costs whatso ever, the community website is an extension of our main website and goodwill that we have already built up and continue to do so. If we had discovered Dolphin 2 years ago we would already have 5,000 members (our current subscriber base). |
Point taken - the list needs verification of real members or not. In the mean time here is a new list:

gaygroups.info 10,000+ members, not one on line only one mp3 uploaded
onenightstanddate.com 30,000+ members 15 mp3's uploaded no-one in chat
swapstyle.com 28,000+ members less than 100 with profile photos 2 members online
premiummatch.com 26,000+ members 8 online the funny thing with this one is that a guy joined this site and has found his own picture being used for one of the fake profiles, you can read the post on the site here:
http://www.premiummatch.com/orca/#topic/BecareFul-pls.htm
you need to stop posting lists to promote sites as huge that are infact just conning people with fake profile generators.
Detective Sammie on the case. Beware imposter sites!

want to see what huge sites use the profile generator? easy go the expertzzz and look up the comments on the profile gens for sale and you have a list lmao

I don't know what the point of 20,000 fake members would be, and I can't wait to see how the wedding singer gets 200 members per week. Hell, I know lots and lots of people (I'm not sure they are all friends), but I'm lucky if I can get 1 in 10 to join a site of mine...... at times, you'd think I was asking them to donate a lung. Several of my friends that joined my latest site refused to upload a profile photos, because there were no privacy settings and I could not get them to make a single post or comment anywhere. I think I pissed them off when I deleted their accounts, but i really don't need a good friend to create a blank database record.... I can do that all by myself. That's why I keep bitching about Dolphin's lack of profile privacy settings. With only a few members, I've already discovered that the majority of them won't be active members unless they have control over who can see their profile information.
.
Attracting members is a mysterious thing at times. I've learned that bigger, better features than similar websites doesn't always work. I do know that it take a lot of time and patience. If it were easy, there would be 20,000 social networking sites with a million members each.

It looks to me tha lovelandia and forsakencherry are perhaps the biggest genuine Dolphin sites?
Lovelandia looks like more of a poetry sharing than a real community?
So maybe Simion at forsakencherry has the biggest real community?
Personally my ambition is to have 100 x that many members.
Im serious, just you wait and see ;-)
|
Youdidnt - is this your site: http://youdidntdidyou.co.uk How are you "using Dolphin in a way its not been used before"? Seems like a typical install to me. In any event, it looks like you have about 100 users - not a bad start, but already well below your expectations even since your post here.
--
Fake profile sites - are for the birds! I still really don't get the point - who are they trying to fool? The advertisers? - that would be fraud. The users? It might trick people into registering but you won't fool them for long, and as an "implementation strategy" it is terrible- how would you grow a site after starting it with fake profiles? I know one guy who did this and he bragged about how his site would take over the world - totally psychotic.
-
Another guy I know here has a quarter million people in his Dolphin site. They are not fake profiles, but from a directory he converted to Dolphin - so they are not exactly real profiles either. I think it is not so much the "numbers" that are important, but is it a "real community" and is it accomplishing what you want it to accomplish.

p.s. PrincessFiona - your "Medical Spouses" site it the kind of specialized site that I think will do well - and 700 really is alot of people - in fact it is one of the biggest so you must be doing something right.

p.s.s. You are doing nice work also Birdtribes.

It is interesting that the whois record for the technical contact for lovelandia.com is in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
And.... that the domain servers for lovelandia.com are dns1.expertzz.com & dns2.expertzzz.com

Well done.... with the 700 real members.... you're doing good:)
The thing that bugs me about your site however, is that when in the forums, the site headers disappear, thus breaking your sites navigation. Is this the standard phpBB integration?
A really quick fix would be to create a new dolphin page and use a dynamic iframe to contain the forums. Take look at the iframe script here: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex17/iframessi.htm

Actually, for all intents and purpose, Boonex IS in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. What that 'Proudly Australian' logo at the bottom of every page on this site is about, is not exactly clear to me. That's why I said what I said.

HI Rob our community was started on Tuesday,so its not a bad started, ouyr website visiting is highest on a Monday, so i'll expect another 100 today
People asking what our trick is: we have already built up and continue to build the community in peoples (our customers) minds. myspace, facebook etc took off because people know each in "real life", I would imagine it's more difficult to build a pure online community, it's not about SEO and/or marketing...
hi Houston Lively re: you need to compile your language file: http://youdidntdidyou.co.uk/orca/ how do we do this????

Youdidnt:
Did those people really opt in? Though you have many pictures, I didn't see where anyone had filled out a profile. As I mentioned, I know another guy here who has a massive number of his directory contacts in his Boonex install, but that is way different from having a "community". If you have a plan to add 200 people a week though, more power to you. Let us know how it goes.

You fix that Orca problem by going into the Orca admin backend and clicking the little "en" link - do a search and you will see that it is one of the most common questions asked here.

yes "all opting in" (they are being enticed to join), we aware that people aren't adding big descriptions of themselves just yet, we hope to encourage them in the future. Looking at myspace/facebook/bebo most people when they sign up add, modify or increase the size of their descriptions at a later date. We will be making free backgound images for people to customise their profiles, links to free video, music and photo editing software such as www.trakax.com and www.gimp.org and www.audacity.sourceforge.net to encourage people to add more content, lots of other ideas too... We also have other plans for classified, events, forums sections but we are stilling finding our way around Dolphin...
At the moment we are using the free version of Dolphin but we will going for the paid version soon and we will leave the boonex links on as this is such good software (we wouldn't usually leave software links on) as a thank you...
*Thanks for the orca tip* |
Lovelandia is a boonex site, they have never tried to hide that... if you use the free version of Dolphin/Ray one of the ads on the ray widgets is for lovelandia. They own 4ppl and lovelandia.. |
Sammie..... a few questions..
I was curious as to how long is has taken you to get those 420 members, and if your site is constrained to any particular geographical area.
I'm also curious how you go about personally verifying the gender of your members. I would understand if you did not want to disclose that information in a public forum... or anywhere for that matter. On my sites, I am not concerned with gender verification specifically, but I do find it annoying when people sign up with the intent of impersonating someone else. Sometime's it has been obvious that someone isn't who they say they are.... other times it's not so easy. After a site has a large membership, impersonators tend to fade into the background, but on a small site just getting started, this sort of thing can screw things up and be a real annoyance.
My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Same as Sammie, my site also targeting specific group. Mine is mainly for young asian gay . I launched my site last July & now have about 3500 real members. I promote my site through word of mouth & IRC. 3 months average ranking for Alexa is about 356K.
But sad to say that I'm still losing money so far as mine is a free site ( I'm not going to convert it to a pay site though ). The server costs me USD150/month while I'm making only about average USD110/month from Google Adsense.
The only thing bog me down is the server speed/RAM where my site was down several times per month ( if was down last nite too, LOL ). A lot of people not willing to join my site owing to the server speed. I believe my site could have attracted more members if I've upgraded to a better server. But frankly speaking I'm not that willing to fork out more money as I don't want to continue lossing money. Futhermore, I'm on my own to manage the site & I might sell it soon since I would be busy managing another site soon.
|
Sammie, thanks for taking the time to give such a detailed answer. I would expect that your site has enough users in video chat to answer just a few more questions. I'm new to setting up video chat and haven't seen any info on the RMS in regard to how much server-side streaming bandwidth you need per connection. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough. Obviously, your 400+ members aren't all going to be using video chat at the same time. Can you say what percentage of those users are simultaneously using video chat, or what the peak streaming bandwidth load is for 400 users? It would give me a better idea of server requirements as a site evolves. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Any site using my language pack and 7 colors template are listed here?

Thanks again Sammie, that's very useful info
These figures are approximate, but a little quick math indicates:
Each active webcam requires approx 33.5K BPS streaming BW
Your peak streaming BW load is approx 503K BPS
Streaming video sure is a bandwidth hog. RMS would sure use h.264 I hate to think of the server and streaming BW requirements for hundreds or thousands of concurrent webcams. It's a good thing I won't have to worry about that for a while.
Anybody know if you can use FMS or Wowza with Ray?

I have been reading this interesting discussion for a few days now!! And i guess i can add my two cents worth!! My site has almost 150 members! And i have been busting my azz giving my members the best Site that i can come up with. My rules are simple have fun .participate in the site and most of all no drama allowed one complaint and the member is deleted and ip address is banned!! |
Houston, you make a good point about how hard it is to get people to register for anything these days -and posting pictures is even harder. That is why that "one night stand" site with all the scantily clad women streched credibility a bit. If you want pics, somehow you have to get the first 10 or 20 people to post their pic first - then do a mod that displays only people who have posted their pictures first. Not too many people know it, but the Facebook site was made from stolen pictures of the entire student body at Stanford, which made it hugely successful. Mark Zuckerberg later stole the idea from the people who had paid him to develop the service - making it a company born of dishonesty. The point is that like birds who won't land in a field unless they see a few other birds there, no one will post their picture unless other people have.
-
Sammie, I agree - adsense is a ridiculous rip-off. Consider putting an adserver between adsense and your site- then you can display the banner ads you want and let adsense fill in the gaps. Most people use openx but the new Google ad manager isn't too bad and allows you to display competing ads.

After a little searching, media server pricing isn't as scarey as I thought.
.
This one: http://fdcservers.net/Services/DedicatedServers/100MbitUnmeteredservers#s207
Offers a 100MBit FDX port and unmetered BW for $199/Mo That's enough to support roughly 2,850 concurrent webcam connections..... more if the media server you use supports h.264
.
In Sammie's example, during peak usage, 1 in every 80 users has an active webcam in chat. If you make a bold assumption and say that for any given site, that same ratio of streaming BW to users can be applied, the $199/mo server above should serve the needs of a social network of nearly 250,000 members. And... NO.. I do not have a vested interest in the above hosting company, but it sure is one of the best deals on BW I've seen.
My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
......... one complaint and the member is deleted and ip address is banned!!
Gatekeeper, just make sure you do all your homework befor you ban an IP address. It will work for users that have a their own static IP address, but that's about it. Many users, might be accessing your site through a proxy server such as aol, and if you banned an IP address like that you could make your site inaccessible to many thousands of users. Also... many people with a high speed internet connection are assigned a dynamic IP address, so you couldn't ban those.
.
I'm not against IP address banning, but it isn't always a viable way to get rid of pests. On one of my sites, I ban entire countries.... .cn for example.... the places where most spammers and sql injection atacks originate. I only ban U.S. IP addresses after I have verified that they are a static IP address and I can verify the owner details.
My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
...... other guys not wanting to appear gay, do not look at other guys cams either.
I've been in Chat rooms like that..... mostly for comic relief. A lot of times when some guy asks the ladies to have a look at his late nite dickcam, I'll click it every time and say, "Hi there big boy...my name's Bob" .... or something like that.... sometimes it freaks them out. I have a wierd sense of humor sometimes. Then when some cam ho enters the chat room, all the guys will think they're Steven Spielberg, and start directing the cam ho. I'm not even sure video chat on my site is worth having, but it's a pretty cool thing.

Yes indeed houstonlively i am very careful with the banning of ip adresses !! The member"s i had banned werev shapeshifting multi-profilers from another community i am involved with before i stumbled into Unity and created my own site! I do thank you for the advice!!

Sorry but I don't have such stats... That I know is that my site's activity decreased by more than 60% and loosed more than 2'800'000 Alexa ranks since Dolphin v. 6.1... because of the cupid mails feature that doesn't work any more :-((

I'd say anyone above 500 true opt-ins has made it as a small community with Dolphin. Forming a "true community" is tough - perhaps there should be some cooperative agreement that we will join others sites where appropriate and even occasionally throw up a forum or blog post on some of the smaller sites. Probably the new OpenID standard will increase this kind of cross-pollination. It should be possible maybe to establish a kind of "virtual incubator" to help small sites get going. Boonex is on my list at the moment, but I also think they should improve these forums - I would like to see a "newbie" board - where they could feel comfortable asking questions and people with more skills could go to help if they want. Jtedo documentation and Sammie's dummy book are good contributions also.I also think there should be some category forums for the kind of sites: "Dating", "Social", "Business" and "Adult" - lots of those guys here, they might as well have their own forum. I'll probably think of more stuff to rant about late.

Try changing
switch( "{$aField1['Type']} {$aField1['Type']}" ) {
to
switch( "{$aField1['Type']} {$aField2['Type']}" ) {
in the function getProfilesMatch() in the file inc/classes/BxDolProfileFields.php.
After this you should also clear the database table `ProfilesMatch` which contains (incorrectly) calculated match scores for your old members.
This worked for us, if it does for you too I guess it should be reported to Boonex.

Thanks again ;-)

Glad it worked out... There is a setting under "Settings"/"Email Templates" in admin: "Send emails from queue, it happens every cron execution". Depending on the value of this and your cron interval it could take a while before the queue empties. If they never get sent you are likely to have some missing data in your database, e.g a profile got deleted during between the generation of email and actual sending of it. This is another bug but should not affect more that one or two profiles every now and then - not 60%.

its also not about how many members you have , a good indication of community spirit across your dolphin site is the ratio between members and friends... We have noticed a couple of the big sites with like 3,000 members but only 10 friends, far better to have 500 members and say 300 of them being friends eh? |

Part of the reason for this is that Dolphin does not send out a notification email upon friend request. We created a free mod to solve this for those who are interested, it's on the expertzzz site.

Sorry but I don't have such stats... That I know is that my site's activity decreased by more than 60% and loosed more than 2'800'000 Alexa ranks since Dolphin v. 6.1... because of the cupid mails feature that doesn't work any more :-((
(even the best real expert gave up with this problem...)
Try changing
switch( "{$aField1['Type']} {$aField1['Type']}" ) {
to
switch( "{$aField1['Type']} {$aField2['Type']}" ) {
in the function getProfilesMatch() in the file inc/classes/BxDolProfileFields.php.
After this you should also clear the database table `ProfilesMatch` which contains (incorrectly) calculated match scores for your old members.
This worked for us, if it does for you too I guess it should be reported to Boonex.

Anatoa
Hi Anatoa,
how do you go about 'clearing' the database table?

Stuart
Hi Stuart,
This SQL command will do it:
truncate table `ProfilesMatch`;

Part of the reason for this is that Dolphin does not send out a notification email upon friend request. We created a free mod to solve this for those who are interested, it's on the expertzzz site.
re; INSTALL.txt 1. Run the SQL statements from sql.txt to create two new email templates. is this done via php myadmin or just add to server??????????

For most people phpMyAdmin will be the easiest way to run SQL commands.

One of my Adult Dating websites has had over 1000 members, I started it 2 years back with Dolphin 5.6 I have just migrated to a new server to get the benefits of Dolphin 6.1.4. As in the old version I couldn't get most things to work. Anyway the point is it's taken me Two years to build this and most of them members have come in the last Year, I just cleaned my data base (well my cron job did now it works LOL) and now I have only 985 members with 923 Active, so I presume that they have been active in ythe last 12 Months.
Guess what?
- They are all genuine.
- There is only One Person Online at the mo.
- No one in chat.
- 392 Profile Photo's
- No video, music, blogs or communities (but feature only just come available)
- Also I did have 1300 pages listed with google but I that just dropped to around 900. Must have penalised me for too many changes too quick.
- But am still getting a couple of members per day.
So it's not the easiest thing to get members and keep them active.

I have ran into an issue using Centos on the server which has a file folder limit of 32k.
This means that any profile member over 32k will not be able to upload any images because the file system is not built for it. I'm open to any suggestions on how to get around this?
I have spent so much and lost so much money on this project it is unbelievable. With the luck I've had with 'programmers' I don't want to spend any more money having a Dolphin rewrite so it breaks up the profile image directory into groups. Please.
Any ideas?

There are file systems available which can support more than 32k subdirectories - you should contact a Centos specialist to set this up on your server. A Google search reveals ReiserFS as a possible alternative.
Considering not all users will upload profile images you should be able to support a lot more users on the default filesystem - maybe 50 to 100k. Past this number you might be looking into a custom solution with a separate image server anyway...
Cheers

Yes, thank you. I too did some google searching. I get the feeling ReiserFS is an older technology after reading some about it. In a way, I think it is a bit unusual to load one folder with so many subfolders. Perhaps the next rev of Dolphin will allow for an easier path configuration for an admin. Even if it were hard coded in, such as taking the last character of the id and using that as a basis for grouping. A subfolder structure could be created as...
media/profile/0
media/profile/1
.
.
media/profile/9
This would allow Dolphin to exponentially scale out compared to what it is today. Yes, I realize most will not have 10's or 100's of thousands of profile records but if they do...? LOL.
Thank you again for the reply. I actually have ended up changing the business model of how data is stored rather than spend any more time looking for a technical way to address the issue.

Hi guys,
Please take a look at hasu.com, a fitness and sporty site and give your comments.
I have about 400+ members after 2 years which kinda low.
Hope for your support.
Thanks!

I guess it would be better to rank the biggest Dolphin sites by traffic they receive instead of the number of members they have (since massive fake profiles are very easy to make...)
In my opinion the best way to rank sites is by Alexa rank (http://alexa.com/)
The lower the rank, the better. (for example Google has a ranking of 1, Yahoo of 2, and so on)
So if a site claims to have 10.000 members, but yet has a ranking of 2.000.000 or more, then most of these members are fake profiles.
Curious to see who's got the best alexa rank... :)

I dont think the amount of members really matters if they arent active. I launched my site about a month ago (asian dating site), I have about 220 real members so far (I've been advertising alot), but Im not making any money on them because its a dating site and Im struggling to find a way to get them to stay active. Most of them sign up, upload a picture, modify their profiles (design their profiles etc.), then leave and dont return. Lots of them leave comments on other peoples profiles when they join like "hey youre cute", but thats about as far as it goes, they dont return after that and neither does the person they called cute. I wish there was a way to fake the chat room, I havent figured out a way to get people to stay in the chat, since theres never anyone in there anyways. The chat is pretty much the only way I can imagine to get them to stay active. Myspace makes money because most of their users are active. Now Im doing the same thing as Myspace, and most myspace users dont use the forums or chat, so I'd like to figure out what Im doing wrong. Even if I had 10,000 members, they arent worth anything to me if they arent on there and clicking ads. My only hope is that I will somehow discover a way to keep them active. |

Well there are some good points there and i have to say i dont believe you are doing anything wrong, its just the way things are going these days and all just a sign of the times.
Call me an old romantic if you like, but i think blokes have forgotten how to speak to women (i have a friendship first site, dating secondary) and blokes tend to join up, aim for the actravtive women, send them a message something like "Hey sexy, wanna come on chat with me" or summat lame like that and expect to get a response. This then puts the woman off from wanting to take part in the site because they see that the men dont want to chat properly with them, they are on the pull and it shows in how they speak (never heard of softly softly catchee monkey) "hello how are you my name is ben" (or whatever) i even get some blokes trying to stick up pictures of their wobbly bits (Oooo, the horrible things i have seen.... im gunna need therapy before im too much older..LOL) with profiles that say " i want sex, dont get any" etc etc... Which dont get passed the approved stage.
you mention my space and how people dont use the chat so much or the forums, well i think just like texting killed off letter writing, things like twitter and the status wall have killed off people wanting to use anything that requires more than one brain cell like posting on the forums which usually requires more than a few words like. Stephen says " im going to get pissed tonight" Ben says " me too" simon says " i was pissed last night" and such drivle like this that face book is full of, but it seems thats what people want these days.
all you can do to try to get people active is ------- Pass on that one..... Ive tried incentives for free memberships for active users and alsorts, but it seems people are just bone idle these days when it comes to taking part in a community. Numbers are all well and good ( i have 105 members) but if they dont post, take part in stuff then they might has well not be there. I run a couple of forums too and its in part of my site rules that if people dont post at least once in the first five days they get deleted, after that if they dont log on for 28days they get deleted. I think most forum owners are losing the battle agaisnt twitters and wall inputs anyway, so with a community like dolphin where people have to make real effort then you need to get the whip out. (on second thoughts best not, some of the members might like that a bit too much" LOL

500 members a week wouls be beautful. But my site gears towards something that folks cant refuse, "lovins" hah..
i do market on free sites, and trade the occational banner, but im at about 2500 members after about 3 months of chuggin away. When i let the site be, let folks find it however they find it, and dont push it, i average about 20 new members a day. But, when i log on to some of the free adult dating sites, and local social sites around the country, my new member count is between 100 and 150 a day. And thats with a site involving booty. haha. I dont think 500 a day would happen without dropping some serious coin into some serious advertising. Especially with something not involving the number one seller on the net... secks. out of those 2500 +/- members, i do have about 20 that are not real, they are hot decoys to catch inappropriate behavior, and female profiles that are acutally men.
Just throwin 2 cents in. But, i gotta say, signalzero and youdidntdidyou, have some great looking dolphin sites.

I never checked the Alexa ranking thing.. this was a first for me.. 5,074,671
is that good, comparatively speaking?
|
It means you are the five millionth most popular website in the entire world! |
Out of all the communities from the list only 3 seem to have mostly legitimate users:
1) lovelandia.com - Alexa rank of 125,000
2) polchat.pl - Alexa rank of 179,000
3) swapstyle.com - Alexa rank of 202,000
NB. The lower the Alexa rank is, the more popular the website is.

What ever happened to www.forsakencherry.com? |
It probably died.
Also, Military Romance was purchased and switched to another platform, and Love Landia never used Dolphin.

'funny' how most of the sites in this post (2009) are now shut...
would be interesting to compile an up to date list of current 'doing well' sites.
I have one that Im building for a 'minor celeb' and am getting around 100 signups a week. Not sure how many will become active on the site though, most seem to just sign up to check it out.
has bout 900 members, usualy 40 in the chat rooms on some nights.

Things change. I know there are some large Dolphin sites around, mostly running older versions. You should be able to find them by searching the web for some Dolphin-specific URLs. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |

Our Alexa rank is way better than those (consistently between 50,000 and 65,000) if you want to use that as a valid metric...

how are you able to find out who is using dolphin? i was hoping that once i paid to remove the link at bottom of powered by that if my site grew i would not have people knowing what is was running on?
thanks

The same way the spammers find them, by searching Google using "inurl" to find a Dolphin specific url or search for text in one of the files that is Dolphin specific. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
ok thanks, when you register your license with boonex it says register your site, does that auto register your site on here to show people it?
thanks again

You can always spot a Dolphin site. Most CMSs have their own URLs or templates which have a familiar look. But most people won't know the name of the CMS, unless they're familiar with it. Joe Member won't know it's Dolphin unless the default blurbage is still there, the banners are intact, or he's also a Dolphin user.
ok thanks, when you register your license with boonex it says register your site, does that auto register your site on here to show people it?
No. It does link the domain to your license, which can be managed from your account.

Are there any new additions to this list? Lots of us get stuck at a certain number of members, and it is nice to know what sites are doing well, so we can learn from them. |

Nope. Most larger Dolphin sites are not run by Unity members, so it's off to the search engines to find them.

SocialMunch.com
I have a PR 3 and Alexa rank of 380 - 400,000 world web rank.
I have top Google listings for hundreds of keywords (Google pages 1 - 3) and sometimes topics and contents created at my network are added to top listings (page 1 Google) within hrs of being created.
We rank number 1 in the entire world for some keywords for example; 'free social chat' = # 1, #2 in the world. - 'social chat room' = # 1, #2 in the world. etc etc ...
In 16 months I have nearly 14,000 REAL active members and I get 35,000 - 50,000 unique visits per month.
last month I hit 8,000 unique visitors in one day due to particular topics I covered and shared via other networks.
We are a very clean social network that is well looked after and watched over. We do not promote our site as a chat room or as a dating site whatsoever.
I have also added my network here at Boonex; http://www.boonex.com/w/social-munch-network
I do not have a huge team. It's just myself, a wife who helps watch over things.

It is indeed possible to get 200, 400 or even more visitors and even REAL new members at your site!
Below is a screenshot of my Google Analytics. It shows 2 days in Feb 2012 in which my site had 15,436 unique visitors. I can also tell you that about 370 new REAL members joined in just one of the days;
Another screenshot from March 2012 shows that my site had 8,500+ unique visitors of which about 350 new members joined;
