Linked key

At the suggestion of johnk42, I got Anton's excellent (and free) "Mandatory Confirmation" mod that works extremely well: https://www.boonex.com/m/Mandatory_Confirmation

It would be really nice to add a "Resend confirmation email" link to the error message generated when an unconfirmed member attempts to log in.

My search for how to to do that turned up an unanswered request for the same information from more than nine years ago. Plenty of posts on how to put language key in HTML, but no others that I could find on being able to put HTML in language key.

If this is possible, would you please share the information on how to accomplish?

It's too late in the night to chew this one over, but I don't see a problem in inserting html into a language key, considering the way it's stored. The problem would be the code needed to access the member's records and sent the correct confirmation email.

May I suggest this solution: change the error text to something a little more user friendly. I'm using this and nobody has complained:

Whoops!

Your username or password has been rejected. Possible reasons are:

1. You entered one, or both incorrectly. Please try again.

2. If you've just joined us, you must wait for a confirmation email which will explain what to do next.

As we're a community group, our Admin's could take up to 48 hours to approve your application.

Why not use that time to write an interesting description about yourself and have it ready to add to your profile.Short profile descriptions turn prospective contacts away.

The html code is displayed to the user when a link is inserted in the language key. You're right that referencing the member's records to resend the correct email is a snag, which is probably why a resend link isn't a part of Dolphin.

You're right

I think people are used to all sorts of spam barricades these days. I just waited four days to be approved on a forum.

You can always update the first email to explain why all the fuss.

Is it possible for admin to manually resend the verification email to a particular member? If they don't have the original in their inbox or spam folder, then it would be necessary for them to not only re-register, but also choose a new username and password since their first choices would already be locked in the system. Undecided

Probably.

The first thing you should do if you haven't already done so, is set up a dummy account with a valid email back to you. If you only have one email and you're using it for admin, go there and change it to something else. Now set up the new account with that email address. You have to do this because Dolphin doesn't allow duplicate email addresses.

Create the account and watch what emails arrive. If you find them terse, or uninformative, change the wording in the email templates in Admin/Settings/Email Templates.

Don't respond to any of the emails.

Go to Admin/Members and in the Overview section there should be at least one pending member. Tag it and down the bottom you should see a button "Confirmation Email" or words to that affect. Click that. If I recall correctly, it sends the confirmation email again. I can't prove it because I don't have any working sites I can access right now.

If I'm right, you should receive another reminder email. If I'm wrong and it confirms that you're a member, at least you learned something.

Don't forget to reinstate Admin's email address when you've finished.

Thanks again, John.

Yes, you were correct that admin can manually resend. Appreciate you pointing that out.

I also came across yet another good (and free) mod from Anton that allows reminders to be sent automatically and at whatever days interval admin chooses:

Thanks for the link. I hadn't downloaded that one so I'll install it and give it a try.

I always believe that others have similar problems or concerns, thus I write my replies to assist them as well.

Thanks for letting me know that button was there for that purpose. I seemed to recall that it was.
