Limiting Groups

I would like to see a configuration setting limiting the number of groups created by a user.

Hi dgodfather,

It is possible to limit groups as per membership level. here is the path where u can set the number of groups a person can create

goto the admin panel

1. goto Settings -> Membership Levels

click on the membership level in which u want to set the limitation on groups (lets say 'Standard' membership). on ckicking on "standard" a screen will be displayed with a lot of action items displayed in gray and blue color. blue color are the once which are activated for this membership. Locate "group add group" and click on it. A small pop up screen will displayed where you can insert the limitation.

Thanks

@palz. I was facing the same question.

Looking at your answer and following your path I can open the activated items per usertype.

However, "group add "group" is not showing, also not in the inactive onse in tehe pulldownmenu above.

Any clues?

thanks,

Bert

A related question - maybe related.  I wish there was a way to limit the number of user selections on multiple select menu items.  I have a list called "industries" on my user profiles and people keep selecting all of them.  I wish I could limit them to 5 or 10 - whatever.  Does anyone know if this can be done?

For me it does NOT work in Internet Explorer 7 but works in Firefox, (the pop-up box that is) go figure

Some one on these forums advised me to use Firefox in Admin

Hi Bert,

Have you installed the groups extension from Tools -> Modules. if so then you should see the following for groups

groups approve groups
groups broadcast message
groups comments delete and edit
groups delete any group
groups edit any group
groups mark as featured

These are the options that you can see. After that when you click on the "groups add groups" a pop up window will open which has options something like below

Number of allowed actions:
infoerror
Number of actions is reset every:
infoerror
This action is available since:
infoerror
This action is available until:
infoerror

Let me know if this helps

Hi dymfg,

Ya I have read about using Firefox for admin. Personally i prefer using Google Chrome. everything works well on it and also that its clearer. But that's just my personal experience.

Hi CALTRADE,

Thanks

Palz (or anyone), it is really very simple.  If you have a multiple select field in a member's business profile, how can you prevent them from selecting every item in that list?  For example, if I were to add a field called "business skills" - let's say with 30 or 40 items.  It has been my experience that a certain number of users will go through and select most or all of the items on that list.  How can I limit them to - say 10 or whatever, of the possible selections.
