License locked mods = PAIN IN ARSE!

I have bought both Fundraiser mod by Kevinmitnik and Subscription Management by Martinboi SEVERAL TIMES over the last few years costing several hundred $$$

Now both modules do state they are license locked - which I have no problem with.

They both say you can contact the developer with the URL to point the license to.

The problem comes when either of the following - or BOTH happen...

A - The developer tells you he is not able to change the license from one site to another.

B - the developer does not respond at all to any request by email or support forum!

I have been developing sites for many years and using Dolphin for at least 4. In that time, with Dolphin, probably only about 1in4 sites that I develop last long term. Sometimes you try a market and it works, others dont so get dropped. It is after all a social network so is open to hit and miss...

If a module is license locked, it should also be able to be changed from a dead domain to a live one instead of having to buy it all over again!

I have emailed both developers regarding this only to be ignored so far.

I know one is still active as his mod just got updated to 7.1

the other I dont know if even supports his mod anymore...

in this case should it still be sold especially being license locked???

please note - this is not a rant against license locked mods. Its a rant against how this can be a problem and even used unfairly. My Dolphin $ will be spent elsewhere in future...

Which is why I dont buy mods. The license is not permanent. It can be closed anytime. I do wonder if something like this could happen to Dolphin itself. However, there are always work-arounds. Should those people not contact you after months then just hire a coder to modify and enable the mod for you.

have thought about this, just so i can make use of what i have already paid for!

Anyone out there think they can do this please pm me!

Have looked over the code myself but not found what I need to..

well isn't that bad to do now. Maybe there should be a time limit on this. Like if the mod dev didn't responded to support request for like 1 month than you are free to rip apart the module.

I would love to help, even for free but im not a coder. You need someone to modify the corresponding files for you should the developer not respond anymore.

isnt what bad to do? Modifying a mod or a developer not giving support for it?

Each of these mods I have purchased at least 3 times and none are usable!!!

I have contacted both developers on boonex and on ones own support forum quite some time ago but no response.

One of them I did request a URL change a long time ago and was told it was done. However, the license does not work on the requested URL and the previous one was taken offline a loooong time ago.

Im not one to quickly raise a dispute against developers, but if the mods are no longer supported I dont think its fair to keep them being sold in unity. Either remove the license lock or offer support on them, or remove them altogether!

I wouldnt worry too much. Just give the mod files to someone to reverse-engineer and make the mod work without a license should the developer be unreachable.

If you haven't received any reply for long time then maybe you can do that i guess. Maybe dev no more support his module.

so much to do....
