Less match.com more community

Would love to see Boonex concentrate more on Dolphin moving in the community software path than match.com (as it is a community software).  More concentration on things like classifieds being more robust (more fields and deeper drilling into categories), news and articles allowing photos, flexible profile editing by user, flexible and documented site template editing....and less match garbage.  Keep up the good work Boonex...can't wait to try out D7!!

Well Michel hopefully contrary to your view BoonEx can see that the money is in targeted communities not in people trying to reinvent match.com.  So many HOBBYISTS trying to recreate match and myspace....its not gonna happen!  The real non-hobbyist use is in strategic targeted communities.  I am confident that BoonEx will see the real path in licensing dollars and realize the correct business model is in continuing to make this a community software and keep moving away from the match model.  They now have a chance to push away from hobby to real business!

I would like it to be not geared for dating too but as long as its easy to change from dating to networking... its all good!

It is not necessarily "either or" is it?    I tried to use the D6.1 system to match members by business interests - without too much success yet but theoretically it should be possible.  Right now Dolphin heavily skewed to dating and it is ridiculous that you have to jump through so many hoops to remove age and sex requirements.

Two thumbs on this! ..... I'd give you more if I had 'em.  Dolphin 7 is indeed an opportunity for Boonex to take Dolphin to the next level and ditch the dating site concepts.  Maybe they can come up with some cute add-on dating module for those who want to build another mysiteismuchbetterthanmatchdotcom.com  website.

.

Shared media need to go... period.  It makes any Dolphin based site wreak of dating site, and I despise that.  Even after I disabled and stripped as much of the dating site concepts as I could from my 6.1.4, people still thought it was a dating site.  YUK.  The majority of people that are serious about building a website, do not want to build a dating site.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

As some arguments are sounding wrong to my ears, I think that we don't share the same definition of Dating and Community sites...

This is (part of) my meaning:

Dating:

  • members has to be divided by sex and sexual orientation
  • members can view and reach only profiles of their potential matches (for example: men straight can see only female straight)
  • more privacy
  • private communication tools (messenger, greetings, private message...)

Community:

  • members can see and reach any profile
  • less privacy
  • shared informations (groups, shared media, wall, comments...)
  • "mass" communication tools (chat, forum, ads...)

Social network:

  • kind of mixture of Community and Dating

As it is very difficult, maybe impossible, to conciliate such different needs, BoonEx already planned to split Dating and Community scripts from Dolphin 8.

So each of us will reach the Nirvana in one or two years ;-))

some of us need more flexibility including dating AND business oriented features.. for example my website will be split in two between dating and business.. what a lovely combination :))

some of us will want only the dating features for a dating website the others will focus only on business, or both like in my case. the admin panel should allow to disable/enable those features..

that is the ideal solution in my opinion..
