Leaving Dolphin

One of the reasons I wanted to use Dolphin was because various options I had with the program. It was also somewhat easy to install.  I loved the format, the ease of changing the graphics and all the options I could use on the web site. However, there is a major problem with Dolphin. Video's getting stuck in processing. Our kids take videos all the time. We wanted a family friendly site where everyone could log in and share their videos. We found out we could not process short videos, but we also discovered we could not process larger videos. They would stick in processing.

We looked for help. Sometimes we found the answers we needed, but most of the time, your help lacked in the helping department.

Reasons for leaving:

1. I do not have control of php.ini. My server, who is also under your recommended host, does not allow changes .

2. Getting answers that help are impossible for a beginner. Tell me to put the file in a folder, but I need to know how to get to that folder (ex: home/site/dolphin/music/video/etc.)

3. Why isn't your process fixed by now? Many social sites have videos that do not take forever to process. We have looked at your program for over a year and we honestly thought you had fixed the processing issues. Boy were we wrong.

We hate leaving, but we want to share our life with our family and friends. So we are on the hunt for something similar to your program, but one that will actually process a video no matter what size it is.

Thanks,

The Bostick Family

RE:

That's not the fault of Boonex or the Dolphin script.  That's something the website owner has to take responsibility for.

2. Getting answers that help are impossible for a beginner.

You have ONE forum post here.  Where did you think those answers were going to come from?

3. Why isn't your process fixed by now? Many social sites have videos that do not take forever to process.

Are you aware of the server power those sites have?  You cannot expect to process videos on a shared server anywhere near as fast as sites that run on a dedicated server environment that they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on  Video processing has very little to do with the Dolphin script itself, and more to do with your hosting environment.  If you are spending anything less than $200 -$300 a month on a server, then you don't have a server environment that will handle videos.

You as the webmaster, are responsible for all of the hardware your site runs on.  All Boonex can do is write the program....  they can't make it run fast on a 2 bit server.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

You have one post here.

  1. You do not need control of php.ini.  If a shared server no longer meets the requirements of your site, it's time to look into a VPS or dedicated server.
  2. You have one post as of this topic.  I've seen a lot of detailed answers here.  Confused?  Just ask.
  3. This depends on a few stuff.  Is the cron job setup?  If so, do videos actually process?  How large are these videos?  The larger the video, the longer it takes to process.  Keep in mind you're on a shared server and not a server farm like YouTube.

You keep blaming BoonEx and Dolphin, but they are not the ones to blame here.  What's happened is your site needs to be on a VPS or dedicated from the looks of it, and you're unwilling to do that.  Go to any other script and the same thing will happen here.  Don't like it?  Get out of the business.

Have a nice day.

I'll never understand the people who WON'T post and ask for help but WILL post to let everyone know they're leaving Dolphin. Seems to be a lot of that today...

This must be someone that has an account and has asked many questions, got angry and created another account to moan about it.

I bet there is one thing you never tried, turning off the H264 codec processing selection under your flash apps "Video" section settings, many shared environments run fine as long as this setting is done.

cuts video processing time up to 75% in some cases.

OK, if your on a shared host, your not able to edit the php.ini to change the timeout settings.

In your admin panel, Modules>Flash Apps>Video Player>Settings>

make sure to untick "Use H264 Codec" this setting set "on" can make a video take up to 5-6 times longer to process.

Look, you have to leave Dolphin at some point, even just for a call of nature, you have to, i regularly leave too, what it really matter, is that you'll be back after.

If there is even a single user which never ever leave Dolphin for at least 5 minutes, i want to know about it and i will even make a fan site hosted free on my server about this true super hero Laughing
