Language files, frustrated to say the least

OK, i made a change where I needed to include an addition to the language file in a module.  Cleared the caches and recompiled languages and it was working fine,  Then all of a sudden it stopped working and instead of pulling out the replacement text it is showing the key, i.e.; _bx_profile_customize_publish as an example.  What the hay here?  Anyone got any suggestions on this one?.  Why would it be working fine one minute, and then without making any changes, stop working?

To say my frustration level is blow out the top is putting it mildly.

Try manually delete cache thru ftp /cache to cache1 then make new folder cache need to ch-mod it o 777 or 755.

do it same with cache_public.

After that recompile Lang  in tools/modules select all recompile language

also admin/lang_file.php check box recompile.

Let us know if it solves your issues.

It is now fixed.  I think I did not do a step correctly perhaps before, but it had the correct text at first then it went to showing the key.

Let me make sure I understand how to add to the languages.  What I did was to add the background attachment to the background part of the profile customiser so that a user could fix the background to the page to avoid it scrolling with the page.  I wanted to do the language part correctly.  First I added to the compiled language file but realise that is wrong, as it would get overwritten.

So I went back and made changes to the language file in the install folder of the profile customiser.  Then I cleared out the caches, both by ftp and the backend caches.  Then I selected the profile customiser and recompile that language.

So did I do it correctly the second time?  Are there other things I need to do?  It seems to be fixed now so I will test to make sure and report back if it breaks again.

ya, it should be fine if you add a lang key then recompile. You add it in lang file so, its permanently there but if you add it through admin panel it will be removed when you uninstall the module.

so much to do....
