LOL. Not sure what to make of this.

This comic was published May 1'st, 2014

My phone has more power than that. Either these comics were written years ago, or this was somehow intended to be funny and i am missing the joke.

Hey, I still get excited when I find a 500 MHz computer! Hard to find a solid desktop from 18+ years ago these days.

I read the strip as outlining how what is kick-arse now quickly becomes something we laugh at.  At least that was my first take when reading it.

Then again, it could be an old recycled comic; I have seen some of those lately. in fact one strip was reposting past comics but I am not sure if that is the one or not.  I love your comic mod by the way, it really does add a fun aspect to my site.

I have a bunch of old 500+ machines around here.  In fact, I built a PBX using a 500 MHz computer and it worked without any problems connecting to Google voice.  I used the PBX in a Flash which is running on top of CentOS.  Now that RedHat owns CentOS, they are claiming that people can not bundle CentOS in with their applications so now PBXIAF requires one to install CentOS first.

I probably have an old 286 board here somewhere, I know for sure there are 386 boards.  I cleaned up some of the really old stuff.

Good catch.  That must be the strip that has been running old strips from the past lately.

Now that RedHat owns CentOS

Where did you read that??

The last i knew and this was Jan  2014, RedHat and CentOS were joining forces to help develop the next version of CentOS. However, they still remain 2 separate entities.

EDIT:

I just red this. http://betanews.com/2014/01/08/centos-joins-the-red-hat-family-fedora-gets-a-step-brother/ However, just because redhat is providing funds to centos does not mean redhat owns it. I still believe they are two separate entities.

I think I first saw news of RedHat; let's say control for now, of CentOS was on the Michigan Telephone blog; let me see what I can find.  I do know I read that RedHat was going to try and control the use of the CentOS logo.

They may as well own it and they do own the CentOS trademarks:

In January 2014, Red Hat announced that it would sponsor the CentOS project in order to establish a platform well suited to the needs of open source developers that integrate technologies in and around the RHEL-based operating system.[11] As the result of these changes, ownership of CentOS trademarks was transferred to Red Hat,[12] who now employs most of the CentOS head developers; however, they work as part of the Red Hat's Open Source and Standards team, which is separated from the RHEL team.[13] A new CentOS Governing Board was also established.[14]

There is an interesting article on Nerd Vittles about RedHat and the tradmark issues that RedHat are pushing.

Oh. It's the logos that are protected which is the reason for the restrictions on bundling it with something else.

Well then. Guess i may need to think about restarting my own distro project i dropped a few years ago. It was to time consuming.
