Joining UNA

I have a question regarding the UNA joining procedure. When a member attempts to join, they can, but they fall into a standard level, when they login, they can't perform any action until they create a profile. When they attempt to create a profile, they cant.. I also can not enable standard level in studio > permission. There is no slider to disable or enable.

@Boonex: This is what I see when going to the site:

You have no profiles created, so you can't perform any actions on the site, please create profile.

Clicking on the create profile link provided shows the Create Profile with options of person and organisations.  Clicking on the person icon results in

You didn't created any profiles, so you can't 'Create Person's Profile'.

And it is much the same for organisation.

Now, this is outside of DeanMonte, these are my opinions only.  This whole set up for UNA is just downright stupid.  On any other bleeding site when you create an account you gain access.  If I join FaceSucks, I am on FaceSucks and ready to add content.  If I join Twitter I am on Twitter ready to tweet.  Not on UNA, yes, you have created an account but you now have to create more crap just to use the site.  The whole thing just adds confusion.

@boonex, Is this a ghost town in here? Plenty of forums have been left without a reply from boonex, nice job.

Selection of what profile type is to be created critical for UNA structure, and indeed there's a number of situations when Account without profile is needed.

That said, I concur that this extra step causes confusion and needs to be streamlined. So, we decided to make this modification - https://github.com/unaio/una/issues/613.

Thank you Andrew but I don't think you answer the issue that Dean and I are experiencing on his site.  To be clear, we have upgraded the site to the latest UNA release.

A new member that joins is going around in circles; which is why I added the details that Dean did not.  We are told that we need to create a profile and we click on the link to create a profile but then it says we can't create a profile because we haven't created a profile, around and around we go.

I can't reproduce your issues.

When member created Account, but not created any profile then special membership - "Account" is in effect.

So make sure that "Create Person's Profile" action is enabled for "Account" membership level.

Also if member has unconfirmed email then special membership level - "Unconfirmed" is in effect, so check the same for "Unconfirmed" membership level

Yes AlexT, i checked again and i did check off the create profile...i checked unconfirmed and it was unchecked so i then checked it off. i deleted the profile that i'm trying to join with and cleared all cache. Going to re-join again to see, will provide update here and let you know

LOL Laughing  So Boonex is telling me they have created a platform where a member can create an account but not create a profile because of a membership level setting but instead of telling the person that their current membership level does not allow them to create a profile and thus they can not do anything (which is legitimate) and they need to upgrade their membership it just lets them go around in circles, "you need to create a profile; you can't create a profile because you haven't created a profile".  Unbelievable.

I just re-did the whole joining procedure and was unsuccessful. I'm going to give my opinion, if a user needs to go thru this nightmare i might as well throw in the towel and prevent a nightmare waiting to happen. If i had a million members i could understand, but the joining process difficult, people will be like why bother if i can go somewhere else that's not a nightmare to join.

The admin panel for UNA is one of the worst ones I have ever had to work with and I have worked with some horrible control panels.  It is the f-ing worst.  If it ever is used for Dolphin then I will walk away from Dolphin and stop promoting it.

I may just be spitting into the wind here but this is what I explained we were seeing and I guess Boonex ignore.  I should have gotten a membership level message instead of the BS that was being displayed.

Thank you for the feedback. We'll improve it in the next update:

If it's not problem with permissions, then please provide Studio, phpMyAdmin and ftp/ssh access to your site to investigate the problem.

Hi AlexT, i believe GG just figured it out. I am able to create profile now. I think it was a setting for account. It had nothing to do with previous assumptions that we were all throwing up in the air. I'll ask her 2moro, it's late over here.

Ok for any others in here, that is encountering similar issues with the joining functionality, please follow this step, go to studio > permissions > levels > account > actions > then enable "create person's profile." Cool
