Java and Ray Media Server

Hi! I was configuring the Ray Media Server, specifically the file red5.sh, to the point to set the JAVA_HOME variable, which should be "the path to the folder where JRE is installed". I discovered that my dedicated server does NOT have Java installed, and my hosting company wants $75 for 2 hours work to do so. Anyone have any suggestions on how to best handle this? Thanks.

Not much you can do other than use the public RMS hosted by Boonex instead.

You need JRE for it to work and you won't be able to do it yourself without privileges.

$75 for 2 hours doesn't sound too bad to me. I'd question whether it'd take that amount of time though.

Actually, I misspoke there - it's $75/hour, and they're estimating 2 hours. I wonder if it is not something that I might be able to install myself? I mean, I did install the RMS. Thanks for your help and input.

Who is your host that they want $150 to install an item that is pretty much an auto install type thing onto the server?  Dedicated, VPS or Shared doesn't really matter, this is basic server software and something they should be happy to do to keep your business, and I'd put it to them just like that.  Either install it for free or your moving your site to another host and stick to your word on it.

In this economy, most hosts will happily bite the bullet and put it in, as your monthly payments are worth a lot more than that fee of installing JRE.

Thanks for the response. I just sent you a message off-forum. Thanks again.
