I subscribe to Dolphin on Sourceforge and got a notice there is a new version.

I did not get anything from Boonex.

Is this really a true update.

The last digit indicates that it's a very minor update and not a major release. I wouldn't bother with using these unless Boonex tells us differently. 

I would assume it's to fix the facebook xml issue killing all the sites....

Indeed, it's a minor update to 7.3.3 to include the Facebook XML fix for new installs. Existing sites should just apply the manual fix: https://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/FacebookLocales-xml.htm

The next proper release will still be 7.3.4, and you'll be able to upgrade to that normally.

I hope it's not going to be mandatory upgrade in the way to upgrade to other major update (7.3.4)...

by the way when is the new release going out? i'm following GitHub to see progress and it's not quite active

It doesn't change the installed version number (it's still 7.3.3). It's just to include the fix for new installs. BoonEx doesn't want to release a modified download and not make it clear that it was modified.

You need to apply the manual fix; all Dolphin sites do, unless you completely removed the social share code from Dolphin before: https://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/FacebookLocales-xml.htm

The next release will be 7.3.4, and will include bug fixes and improvements. I don't have an ETA, but it's actively in the works. There's no 7.3.3.1 to upgrade to, so 7.3.3 sites will have a straight upgrade.

If it is done the same as in the past, then the 7.3.3 download from the download page here on Boonex.com will still contain the bug.  Boonex needs to let anyone downloading from Boonex.com that the download contains a bug that needs to be patched.  The way Boonex has been handling this in the past is a problem in my opinion.  If this has changed, then fine, if not, then it is still an issue.

It doesn't. boonex.com/downloads links to 7.3.3.1, which is 7.3.3 with the fix. There's no actual version number change, it's only to distinguish between the original 7.3.3 release and the modified download.
