First of all I've installed D6 and everything works perfectly no errors no problems. I have to admit that I was sceptic about everything since there are numerous posts saying this doesn't work, that doesn't work, error here, error there but I can't see any of them. So thumbs up for now cause it is really a great solution in my opinion.
My q's are:
Is it worth to start designing new theme and translate everything since new D7 is coming. Does anyone know will ie lang file from D6 work on D7 or perhaps custom theme. Mods ok I don't mind since most of them will be included in D7 by what I've read, but translation and theme worry's me...

I would just wait it out at this point. Supposedly, the beta release of 7 is due out this month, but who knows. |

Yeah, you are going to put a lot of work on D6 only to later upgrade towards the end of the month. I finished my site already and I'm not really making any more changes till D7..So if your are just starting out, waiting would be best for you..But, it would also be good if you worked on your site a bit so you can learn the basics on how Dolphin works, that will put you a few steps ahead.. |
I just finished doing alot pf the design work on my D6 and now I'm tweeking the settings so it will run the way I want, which is actually the hardest part for me. Design isn't that difficult. BUT I will be holding off on any more design changes so I can just do it all on D7.

I'm hoping with future upgrades though that the design changes we make aren't a waste on each subsequent upgrade. I can continually upgrade my wordpress blogs and the design/theme doesn't get affected.

There are different philosophies about this. I think I would start now because there is usually a bunch of work setting up profile fields, language keys, etc - but I wouldn't do any mods. One guy I talked to recently however had a different take - he has a heavily modified system and said he would wait until D8 was almost out before he switched to D7.

Yeah I'm just starting from fresh with Dolphin and I really like it. Problem is that i'll need to translate everything cause it will be localized social date net, that's why i'll wait cause there is a lot to translate :) As of everything, well I'll get to know the sistem for now, maybe fill some dummy users and plan design layout. I'm really ancious to start on this one but hey, it is better to wait then do it all over again.
