I would definitely look into your host configuration then - I have a brand new VPS with zero php ini configurations made (values are at or below minimum recommended). 7.1 is running incredibly fast compared to 7.9 on an optimized server.

My procedure was to take a fresh 7.0.9 extraction and copy/replace the 7.1 files into it. This alleviated all missing files issues for me, and saves a lot of trouble pulling one file at a time from 7.0.9 into 7.1.

Ok. I really like the look and usability of 7.1.

Questions that need to be answered if I'm not going to abandon Dolphin.

  • When can we expect a beta of this?
  • How much focus will be given to it's development over the other projects (like 8) or previous projects (like 6)
  • Will version upgrades still create havoc with site fixes that were required and mod installations or will we still have to spend weeks fixing our sites each time we upgrade?
  • How much has been done to circumvent all the problems that were initially in the previous releases?
  • Is 7.1 it or will there be 7.11 and 7.12 and 7.13?
  • Is there plans for a 7.2 or is this the final version of 7?

I like Dolphin. If I didn't, I would not have stayed so long but you guys make it hard even for the believers to continue to follow your erratic and sometimes pointless path.

With more than ten years worth of information on my chosen topic, I have what I need to put it all in place and become the number one towing and recovery forum in the world. So far, I have not been able to get a satisfactory platform to do that because of endless issues and bugs. In fact, one could say I have lost faith that this will ever result in a finished product. Can I expect 7.1 to finally be that platform?

I've been studying my Joomla lately.

@SkyForum

  • I have no idea about the beta or how many more changes they gonna do in 7.1 but expect a beta few weeks away.
  • Looks like currently they are working more on 7.1.
  • As everytime updates will come and few files have to be replaced and if you have modified it you have to do your changes again. I think its a feature upgrade not a service upgrade. So, its shouldn't be necessary to upgrade to 7.1 but i don't know what bugs or security fixes are done.
  • Have to check timeline. lol
  • Yes i am 90% sure more updates will come. There is always room for improvements.
  • As i said before. 7.1 is final.

The admin section is fine and seems to be working. Looks the same to me as it does in 7.0.9. I am trying to get  rid of the box that has the Home link in it. The box I am referring to sits above the bottom menu about us privacy terms of use bookmarks...etc.

This could be a licensing thing as I am just using a free license for this test site...not my paid license.

Other than that, its looking pretty good so far...definitely seems to be much faster. I have both of my dolphin sites on my same server so I can do a comparison and I am much happier with the speed thus far.

@Daihlo...I haven't come across the issues you mentioned as of yet, but will see if I can duplicate them.

The one thing I do notice is that the russian translations and adding of characters. Also...if you view the blogs page...at the top it says {Profile-Nick} instead of user name in a few places.

Much work to be done but definitely making progress.

The 7.1 download from trac, is missing a lot of files.  If you download from the svn repository, you'll get all the files.   The attached BxBaseFunctions.php has the Russian artifacts removed.

The download from svn, has one problem I noticed, in that the install sql for the events module is AFU.  Replacing it with 7.0.9 sql seems to work OK.

I'm not sure what all the excitement is about.  So far, 7.1 kinda reminds me of that old saying, "Let's put some lipstick on this pig, and try to sell it".  It's a major template change, and a few refinements, but when all the smoke clears, you'll be left with many of the same nagging issues you've always had.   You still won't be able to skin the flash apps, the ugly blue padlock issue won't be resolved (might have some lipstick on it), A/V chat still won't have flood control and a lot of other features.  All the custom templates you purchased will be useless, and don't expect any of the vendors to give you a free template that is updated to 7.1.

There's some improvement here, but nothing to excite me to the point of peeing my pants.

It's really encouraging to see that many people like it.

As for "lipstick on a pig..." - well you'd notice that lots of work gone into improved layout and design, no so much into new functionality. This, however, isn't just a lipstick - some use-cases have improved a lot thanks to the tweaks and the whole platform has become significantly more usable. As an example - just a simple case of establishing a "friends" connection now works so much better - buttons appears where they should and as they should. Also the Timeline, Account and Mailbox - being features that basically form the core of social networking system they have improved dramatically and that will definitely please site members a lot more than a few new features. Still, there's a lot to do, and with this release, more than anything, we wanted to show that we are very committed to continued development of Dolphin 7, desperate upcoming release of Dolphin 8. They will co-exist for many years ahead.

The "Я есть " thing is a just a temporary plug that we used to test spaces in usernames (to allow Full Names as usernames) and apparently you could the build with it. You're most welcome to play with development builds, but don't' be alarmed when you see some bits in a semi-ripped condition.

  • When can we expect a beta of this?
Soon.
  • How much focus will be given to it's development over the other projects (like 8) or previous projects (like 6)
We're splitting 7.1 and 8 development time in cycles at about 50/50 share.
  • Will version upgrades still create havoc with site fixes that were required and mod installations or will we still have to spend weeks fixing our sites each time we upgrade?
We really hope that 7.1 wouldn't cause too much drama.
  • How much has been done to circumvent all the problems that were initially in the previous releases?
A lot has been done, there's some more work to do, and there're a few issues that can't be "fixed" just yet.
  • Is 7.1 it or will there be 7.11 and 7.12 and 7.13?
There will definitely be 7.11, etc.
  • Is there plans for a 7.2 or is this the final version of 7?

Definitely 7.2 (even if HL's patiently runs off before then, we still hope to make his dream come true [padlocks  + flood control ;) ]) will happen. We're keeping D7 alive.

Again, thank you for heads up! Love you, guys!

(special thanks to HL for continued perseverance in regards to the gravest of the issues, despite of our seemingly absolute lack of care about them )

For a lot of site models, being forced to 'friend' everyone SUCKS!

I think by 'Full Profile', they probably mean all their content as well, which means they have to set the privacy for every single module on the account > privacy settings.  I don't have all the modules installed, and I have 33 selector lists on that page.  Add in the basic profile privacy, and all those stupid key on page blocks, and it no wonder why people might get confused.

There's a lot of room for improvement

With the exception of the templates which i think i may have to start over on. Not sure how bad that will be yet.

For me the tools failed to install. Could not insert the admin menu item.

Have you tried installing the tools on the latest SVN of 7.1 since they changed the admin section around?

Found the problem there. Boonex changed the admin menu item that was named "extensions" to "modules" So any module that looks things up by the name will fail to install. Several of my modules do this, so i will need to fix them all.

I have over 15 modules i have to fix due to that change. At least that one is easy.

But they have also changed CSS for text input boxes which is going to create a lot of problems for me as well.

The reason for the posting is to show that it is easy to change colors and different background colors.

Now as far as the actual way the page is laid out I'm clueless.

Reading the notes section will keep you updated on the release. Looks like it might be the end of the month or next.

http://www.boonex.com/n/the-lost-and-found-caches-controls-in-dolphin-7

For now, we plan just a couple more things in Admin panel and a few minor improvements in User part, and we should be able to proceed to beta testing. This time we don't plan to release any "Alpha" versions (technically, you can just grab them from SVN), so expect Betas with interim upgrade packs.

If you used the SVN, navigate to your 7.1 folder in SSH and use "SVN update" this will update your current version.

Keep in mind the install folder will be re-installed and will need to be removed.

I may not be doing it completely right, but it's what I've done for the past week.

Timeline. Similar to the facebook timeline. It's a profile thing, and shows up on peoples profile page.

Your 7.1 tools module; this will allow the timeline to be moved to the index page?

Then marked as member view only, should be all we need.

This would be really "FaceBook" ...Laughing

...but with all the added modules which FB won't give you.

What i would like to achieve, rather then a timeline restricted to people browsing a specific member's profile, is a main page, where everybody can post whatever they like (even non-members), and see all that stuff(pics, videos, status updates, rants, whatever else) in a timeline's manner.

You are speaking about what I was intending, I see a lot of potential in the ability to show an active site feed on the main page, in timeline format. Spy just does not cut it.

I also see the value in keeping a private feed within the member's profile too, a way they can stay in touch with their closest friend's happenings (but sadly, this is the facebook).

That is still in the spy.

Ohh dear, that would be really disappointing if there is no way to make this homepage a bit more of a socialite...

Ok, i'll see if i can make it happen somehow, maybe by using another cms for the wall and keeping Dolphin for the rest.

I already made something similar by removing the default forum and creating a page for a forum from another brand, but what people around here really really want (as the Spice's Girls used to say), it's an OPEN page where they can stick on it all the things they want, without too many strings.

I hope it will be possible at some point, maybe we should all really wait for Dolphin 12 ? Tongue Out

Well, figured out the issue with the template I've been developing for 7.1.

Looks like they added a new script file:

tmpl_uni/scripts/BxTemplMenuSimple.php

Found it missing after reviewing my apache logs. After adding the above file to my new template, everything works again.

Online indicators are no longer showing though (the little colored boxes on the bottom right of the avatar image), this appears to be true with the UNI template as well as my own.

I started installing most of my modzzz mods last night, happy to say that most of the functionality is there in 7.1 and they actually work.

This gives me hope for a smooth transition. I suspect little work, if any, will need to be done to update his modules.

Unless 7.1 offers a Video Category block on Vid home page which so far is not showing on any test sites...

I would think most popular vendors are actively working on compatibility with 7.1, soon as we get a release on it the market products will be updated.

i.e.

Deanos Tools ( IMO the most useful module there is ) didn't work, but he discovered this a while back while playing with the DEMO.

I think we talked about it here in this thread, and he has fixed it to work with 7.1 but I don't know if he posted that it does work, or released the version onto the market yet.

Most of my older modules still are working up to this point, my facebook module from deartmedia has some issues, but it always did.

I also have - facebook module, and the PAC module that will not install without an error.

I suspect those two are being worked on now.

After the complete removal of old 7.1 and updated to 16863, NONE of the older 7.0.9 modules work.. none.

As Deano stated before, they changed the way modules are installed and this proves it. All I see is a faster performing site.

But, as you see in the demo, the spammers have attacked overnight.

Looks like the reCAPTCHA is not blocking much, I added my Akismet just a few minutes ago, they attacked the blogs already.

I just did that, but something it's not working as it should

I just update today, there were two changes last night. now at SVN16866

I still don't see the "embed" feature for the sounds or the videos....

Not the Dolphin facebook module(or PAC module), it's still broke today..

I'm talking about my 3rd party facebook module. Another example was the RPX login module, it worked last week, as of current SVN it does not.

Deano can explain this better than I, perhaps he will enlighten us later.

something went wrong with your install then.

My only problem was .../Serializer/HTML directory was not made, I had to make it and assign permission 777

Did you use the SVN, the http download is not complete, and I don't suggest a merge.

I zipped up the SVN and put over on mynewbeetle demo site for download, (see signature for login info) it's complete except for the above mentioned, you have to change the sitemap.xml file permission to 777

Keep in mind to, you need to SSH into your server and do the change permissions there, and for the modules permissions.

USING SHELL CLIENT

  1. If PHP is running as an Apache module on Unix systems - log into your shell account using your favorite shell client and change directories to that containing your Dolphin script files. Now run the following commands under your SSH prompt:
chmod 777 ./inc ./backup ./cache ./cache_public ./langs ./media/app ./media/images ./media/images/banners ./media/images/blog ./media/images/classifieds ./media/images/membership ./media/images/profile ./media/images/profile_bg ./media/images/promo ./media/images/promo/original ./tmp ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer/HTML ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer/CSS ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer/Test ./plugins/htmlpurifier/standalone/HTMLPurifier/DefinitionCache/Serializer/URI

chmod 777 ./flash/modules/board/files ./flash/modules/chat/files ./flash/modules/photo/files ./flash/modules/im/files ./flash/modules/mp3/files ./flash/modules/video/files ./flash/modules/video_comments/files

chmod 666 inc/prof.inc.php

chmod 666 ./flash/modules/global/data/integration.dat ./flash/modules/board/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/board/xml/langs.xml ./flash/modules/board/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/board/xml/skins.xml ./flash/modules/chat/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/chat/xml/langs.xml ./flash/modules/chat/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/chat/xml/skins.xml ./flash/modules/desktop/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/desktop/xml/langs.xml ./flash/modules/desktop/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/desktop/xml/skins.xml ./flash/modules/global/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/global/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/im/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/im/xml/langs.xml ./flash/modules/im/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/im/xml/skins.xml ./flash/modules/mp3/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/mp3/xml/langs.xml ./flash/modules/mp3/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/mp3/xml/skins.xml ./flash/modules/photo/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/photo/xml/langs.xml ./flash/modules/photo/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/photo/xml/skins.xml ./flash/modules/video/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/video/xml/langs.xml ./flash/modules/video/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/video/xml/skins.xml ./flash/modules/video_comments/xml/config.xml ./flash/modules/video_comments/xml/langs.xml ./flash/modules/video_comments/xml/main.xml ./flash/modules/video_comments/xml/skins.xml
chmod 777 flash/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe

Note: all the other files in the Dolphin installation folder should have 644 permissions, and subfolders should have 755 permissions.

and then for the modules,

Install the modules

Go to Tools -> Modules where you can find modules that are installed and not installed. By default, there are no installed modules, and you have to do it manually.

If your web server is running PHP as an Apache module, you will have to change some permissions to be able to install some modules. Here is the whole list of the correct permissions:

chmod 777 modules/boonex/avatar/data/images/ modules/boonex/avatar/data/tmp/
chmod 777 modules/boonex/forum/classes modules/boonex/forum/conf modules/boonex/forum/layout modules/boonex/forum/log modules/boonex/forum/js modules/boonex/forum/cachejs modules/boonex/forum/data/attachments
chmod 777 modules/boonex/photos/data/files
chmod 777 modules/boonex/files/data/files
chmod 777 modules/boonex/desktop/file
chmod 777 modules/boonex/profile_customize/data/images
chmod 666 modules/boonex/profiler/log/profiler.log
chmod 777 modules/boonex/smtpmailer/data/logs

You can skip the above paragraph if PHP on your server is running in CGI mode.

You may see something about missing folders there but ignore them.

Okay it went all well, apart from a few issues:

1)

Facebook connect version 1.0.9 by Boonex
Page Access Control version 1.0.9 by Boonex

These are the only 2 modules which would not install, no matter what, all the times i get the same fatal horror : "Fatal error: Call to undefined method BxDolDb::log() in C:\xampp\htdocs\x\inc\classes\BxDolDb.php on line 358 "

2) The Field's Builder is now back, the only problem is that it will not allow to edit any of the fields, the window will not load complitely and stays "blurry", as it was not complitely loaded yet

Nice improvement to have a pop up window that ask you to register for a license every few actions are made on the admin's panel, that's just a mod i am sure many people were hoping for, especially those into gaming, as it just feels like playing a nowadays version of Whac-A-Mole...
Quote · 12 Sep 2012

Yes, I posted about those two modules not installing.

I checked out the SVN today and they worked/fixed the facebook module and are up to 16868.

Due to possible damage to my database, I will not add those yet.

When doing updates this way I have to make sure they have not changed the d70.sql file, that was my last mistake.

I uploaded the changed files but what they changed did not work with the "older" database.

I'm reviewing the changes and will move the easy ones over today, most are cosmetic changes.

Those are the only two modules that boonex has that uses a ALTER TABLE in the uninstall sql file.

This issue will affect any module that does this.

Meaning it also affects both my facebook connect module and my google connect module.

I will affect any module that adds any new fields to a members profile.

At first i thought it was a change to the module installer and they were running the uninstall.sql before running the install. But dolphin 7.0.9 does the same thing.

So i am now thinking these errors were not showing up before because boonex was handling error differently. I have noticed that are working on a new error logging system for 7.1 which does not appear to be complete.

Not sure what is going on with that, but it is slowing down my testing. I had both of my connect modules updated to support 7.1 before this issue cropped up. And now i am not sure how to deal with it because i do not know what boonex is going to do. So my updates are on hold until 7.1 hits beta. or they deal with this. Which ever comes first.
