Iphone Group for Upgrading IPhone AP

As I have read the current Iphone AP is open source!?  I have a freind who is a IPhone programming genius nothing short of it.  If it is possible and I am not violating some kind of rule here at Boonex, I would like to join efforts to have a new version completely designed and then posted to the Iphone store which then can be shared by all involved?  Is this a viloation of some kind?  In other words, I would like to know how many people are interesting in going in on the amount of money it would take to accomplish all requirments for Boonex and Apple in order to update and make the AP something that all participants can be proud of and use........If this is not allowed please excuse my ignorance and just delete my post..........

Just have him build one from scratch then there will be no problems.

I'm not interested in paying for a new iPhone app as I paid for one as part of prime.  But I am interested in updating the current app for my sites use (because, like Dolphin, there is a lot of stuff missing.

Redistributing the app may be an issue. Doing what everyone else does with Dolphin should not (release change sets or modules, but not Dolphin itself).

You have to be careful of how Boonex license the app, because last time I checked, if you not Prime you have to pay and extra $300 for it.

There are a number of things I want to change in the iphone app, having to do with site mail and 'messaging'. The number one thing I want to see is push notifications. (push notifications cannot be done with a browser)

I have a lot I want to do in this area,  but the iDevice programmers I have talked to cost too much for me to get anything done at this point.

Don't you also get the source code for the iApp (or whatever they call their apps that work on more than just the iPhone) with Prime or a license?

@DJ Great question and you would think it would close the issue all together but that fact is the reason for the AP to be redefined.  If you log into our site or your site with an Iphone and use the browser the search for Pictures or Video button are ghosted.  In other words most always not just our site but all sites this is the case.  Apple I assume did this to require AN app.........VERY FRUSTRATING indeed and in my mind is restraint of trade but that is another issue.  Thank you for posing the question and I quite assure you frustration does not give it justice BC if those buttons where not ghosted you would be correct but BC they are is why I am here...........

Yes. I have it loaded up in xcode and have played with it, but objective C is very new to me.

If someone needs access to the code I don't see an issue with providing it if the reason is to re brand the app for my site that has a re branding licence.

I wonder what the license for the source code is.

Would be nice if you paid attention and played along.

How about saying "I'm willing to take a look at rebranding the app for your site, but no promises of benig able to do it".

As for the source code licence, I'm not sure right now. What is known, is Prime members have the right to rebrand the app, and the code is provided to do so.

By the way, anyone wanting to play with the app code will need xcode and the iPhone SDK. Both of those are free from Apple, but you need a Mac to use them.

Re-branding the application should just be exchanging a few images in resources/img directory and changing the info.plist file.

- oo.png - the logo that seems to appear when you are not logged in

- dolphin-title.png - the logo that appears in the title bar when you are not logged in between the buttons

- app-icon.png - the application icon that displays when the application is not loaded and clicking it causes the action to load the application.

- Then there are some specific sized images which you can replace out from 16x16.png to 256x256.png

Info.plist - open up in XCode change bundle display name and it will change the name that appears below your application when the icon is displaying.

I am hoping this is the correct process and hope this helps people, it seemed to work for me but I am very new at this. Maybe some step by step instructions with screen-shots would help.
