Invite a friend does not work

So I click the invite a friend link and the pop up opens up. I type in the all the info and click submit and it returns with "Email Send Failed" error message.

Any suggestions?

on this i think you would have to look into your smtp settings on the server and the mail should be processing as nobody across the smtp protocol. if there is an auth setting on the server then the mail will most likely not process.

let me know if you can send/receive mails on any of the other features on the site?

Contact Us works...but tell a friend still gives me error

Had the same problem - everything else worked but not "invite a friend". My solution: you need to ensure that the details you fill in the "From" field and the "From email" field are exactly the same as those of the profile you are logged in with. Otherwise it won't work.

The updated file posted at the last link is very nice, thank you Wizard.  I tried to reply in that thread, but button no workie.

Ok, I have to admit, I still got "email send failed" but that's because of something else, (none of my mails send except as noted below)  not the replacement tellfriend.php.

I tried it from the "share" button on hover over profile pic, and from the "invite friend" link in the footer.   The content is entered properly, but in the footer invite link, the window is very short, showing only half of the submit button.  The window size of the one from Share button is perfect.

Also, it had a leading underscore which I removed on _Your Name and  _Your Surname, but I doubt that would affect the function of the form. Believe this form edit is great for member/user, and much clearer for friend/recipient.

Any idea where to fix the window sizes for the two different pops?

The only mails D7 sends is .. 

 A notice to my admin/user account .. "A profile you have subscribed to has been updated", 

 A periodic cleaning report the day I installed, back in Jan... 

and a DB error the day I installed.  Nothing ever since.
