IP Blocklist

I want to block all countries from viewing my site except for the US I have already whitelisted ip's from the US any way to block the rest of the world?

That is the way it works, Deny All, then allow the IP ranges from the USA.  If you are using Apache that is.

Add this to the bottom of your root .htaccess file to deny all access from outside the U.S.

A 2.7 mb .htaccess file?  Wowzer!  At least whenever that site slows to a crawl, we'll have some idea why.

What's so precious about your content that you want to prevent people from outside the US from viewing it?  Is it really necessary to block the entire planet from viewing your site, or do you just want to prevent them from joining?

True, you only need to block China and Russian; and probably India as well, and maybe a few other Asian places.  Maybe South Korea.  Oh and don't forget .... LOL.

No, the correct way is to Block All, then allow the ones you want to enter.

It is not content that one's worry about, it is the bloody spammers from the countries listed and others.  Hey, I know that not every Chinese is sitting in front of a computer working for a spammer; however, the problem is that one doesn't know if the Chinese trying to visit our site is or is not and since that country is one of the worst offenders, you have to block the whole country.

My site is local info for the city I live in sort of a local community bulletin board, so I would actually prefer to limit all user sign ups to my state but will settle for country There will be nothing of interest for anyone else outside the state or country so no reason for them to join.

That's exactly my point.  You don't need to block them from viewing the entire site, you only need to prevent them from accessing join.php  There's a huge difference in the performance hit your site will take.  Of course that paid join will work too... that will stop just about everybody from joining.

If there is a better way to stop people from joining outside the US please tell me The paid join will only force people from other countries to pay to join.
