I would like to know what exactly did I pay for

No, really. I paid for a Dolphin license, and every 2-3 days, the Dolphin logo keeps popping at the bottom of my website.

Legally, this is not delivering what I paid for.

Really upset on this one. Are you guys able to do at least ONE thing right?

I can see how that can be annoying.  Their licensing for paid customers is built on mistrust, and that sucks.  It is my understanding that callbacks to boonex.com, hosted on hostforweb, frequently fail because the server is not responding....  I think it's completely asinine, to then place ads on your site, for the very thing that is the root of the problem to begin with...hostforweb.

.

I hope they rethink licensing for paid customers with Dolphin 7.  There are other, and better, ways besides callbacks to verify a legal installation and prevent illegal distribution.  Boonex really should give serious consideration to using an encrypted, domain locked, license key system for paid versions of the script.  Sadly, I don't expect licensing to be handled any differently than it is now.

.

Boonex might consider those 20,000 + installations of the Dolphin script something to brag about, but I'd have to take exception to that.  Of those 20,000 installations, probably 99% of them are done by people that couldn't find their ass if it had a bell on it, and the likelyhood of that 99% ever becoming a paying customer is nil.  Still, the licensing system in use by Boonex, places emphasis on that 99%.  The 1% that is taking the development of their site seriously, are bundled together with the 99% that are only using Dolphin because it was something for nothing.

I still don't completely understand this.  Does it mean that when Boonex goes down, we get punished with their advertising on our sites?

No.  There was enough complaining about the callbacks, so they changed it.  There are no callbacks every time you enter admin. Now there is only a callback when you register a license, or if a license is expired.

Sorry, was searching for something else and didn't realize this was an old post.
