Would love to take a look at some dolphin based sites which have been put together by experienced users. I have no experience with code so am at a distinct disadvantage but i will (hopefully) learn as i go. Looking forward to seeing what dolphin sites can look like when in the hands of others. TIA Ed It ain't easy being this stupid all of the time |
Come on people, don't be shy,
I'd just like to see how good dolphin based sites can look in the right hands?

You're probably going to have to search Google. No one wants to post their sites here because it's a magnet for spammers. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |

Thanks mscott, will do :)

I sent you a private message. Like MScott said, I didn't want my server to get killed by attempted spammers. Even tho I doubt they could get thru (I see about 100 failed attempts a week in my logs). http://www.mytikibar.com |
Hi Steve just joined My Tiki bar and had a look, Once you get past the sign in / join, the site looks and works great m8 but i had no idea what to expect from the site from the landing page, once inside it all fell into place. Love the cocktail rating system and the games area is a great idea. Speaking as an independant "end user" i think a little more info is needed on the landing page which indicates that it is a community site but overall the site is great and should attract alot of members.
I hope one day i can get mine to look and work this well
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to have a peek, now i've joined i will be back :)
All the best and keep it up :)

I sent you a PM with a link. But we are not toooooo worried about spam - even spammers have their uses. ;)
Like you I am not a coder. I'd suggest finding somebody competent with whom you can work regularly. I work with a bloke called Denre who runs a hosting service. I have found that the hosting, management and coding functions sit well together. He isn't the only provider offering such a service and I can't comment on them, but for a small business the concept seems to me worthwhile.

Yeah, 1 (of many things) I need some help on.
Not sure what to do on the home page before signing in.
I really need someone that is very social to hype up my site! LOL

Registered and joined Andrew, a Very cool looking site and a good resource. great tag line too: "think see speak share" very simple but grabs and sticks. Having the ads on both sides in narrow columns is unobtrusive too to the point where i hardly noticed them. I will be back (often) Many thanks for the opportunity to have a look.

yes, I searched before asking.... |
We like it. Glad you do.
I don't think there's many sites doing quite what we are. The advertising is problematical as always - the fact that you hardly notice the floating ads at the side is not such a good thing.
Feel free to add some content - but if you do please drop me a line first because we have to reject almost everything!

Hi FFP, Love the look of your landing page, the whole thing looks very inviting and likewise for the rest of the site It has obviously been well thought out with a large target demographic.
Please do not take this as a critisism but i am one of those people who look at a site and as soon as i see "membership fee" i say "Nah this site is not for me" but that is just a personal thing and i have been known to buy merch to help keep a site going as i'd much rather pay a couple of extra $ / £ for a T, cap or mug etc than "hand out" money for memberships.
Still a well worked out site and very appealing to parents looking for friends.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to have a peek.

Glad you like the look. Our goal is to be huge and being inviting is a big part of that and something we strived for.
Quick question, where the hell did you misread that we have a membership fee? please let me know because I need to clear that up. we have a premium membership level (which you can earn through activity or by paying) but the site intentionally has a very high and totally free user experience. we clearly state that on the landing page and elsewhere...at least I thought we did.

This might seem counter intuitive but when looking at how I wanted my Dolphin based site to look and work I did not look at Dolphin sites. ;)
I looked instead at other sites that did some things the same way as I wanted to do. I looked at how sites implemented ideas that I had had and I stole ideas from other places - including the previous iteration of my own site.
Then I looked at a lot of templates for Dolphin to get an idea of how dolphin worked in terms of putting the building blocks together.
Only having done all that did I sit down and 'design' the site within the Dolphin schema. But, because I had almost no money and an existing site to get working again I concentrated upon getting a working site, ready to accept content. Only after that did we get going on the design of the look and feel and customising functionality - on implementing the ideas we wanted to include.
I guess that what I am saying is that if you have made the choice of platform then there is no limit to where the ideas for how it works come from - certainly don't limit yourself to what Dolphin is 'supposed to do' or what other Dolphin users do.
Andrew.

No Fear - send those SPAMERS - I wanna see them get through the wire:
https://myneighbors.net ( just reinstalled - and I am slow these days - HACKING recoding
the Hacked recoding I Hacked recoded in the last Hacked recoded version I hacked in
various php, css and php/html template files ( among others ).
Actually you will find Dolphin really easy to work with if you take your time and read the docs ( those that apply ) as well as search the forums here and elsewhere.. There is not many CMS/Social Networking sites I haven't played with and tossed. Dolphin ranks up there with the best of the best... next, in my book would be Drupal... very modulized CMS that can be turned into any thing one can imagine with some work.
Think you'll have more fun with Dolphin in the end as well as your audience.

Ive enjoyed this thread and seeing the layouts of other sites. Its hard finding other Dolphin Sites to get ideas on layout when you are just starting out. Thanks everyone for sharing your links... |

Search for something that's on most Dolphin sites.
ie: Go to Account then click on Avatar. You will be able to select an Avatar as your primary photo or you can upload a photo from your computer. If the Photos module is installed, from the View photo page you can set a photo as your Default Avatar.

The platform might be good but they need to get rid of that horrible Dolphin 8 admin interface. I don't know if the person that designed the Dolphin 8 admin is still with Boonex or not but it should be ripped out and replaced. I have used a lot of platforms over the years and that Dolphin 8 admin interface is the worst I have ever had to deal with. Boonex has done a lot with UNA but leaving that old Dolphin 8 admin interface in p[lace is just outright stupid.

Interesting. Hate to digress the topic, so pershaps you'd reply via una.io discussions?
The Studio, as you would know, is not an admin UI - it's a configuration system. Administration is done via user UI.
So, the Studio is arranged with simple principle - every tool, component and module is treated as an "app", which can be turned on and off. The launcher simply lists the apps and each app has its forms/buiders/sections. The UI will be cospeticalyou updated for v9, but general principles still remain.
What do you find inconvenient specifically? Any improvement ideas?

Plus, Unified sounds better than United; however, I have already mentioned this before.
It's what you make it. :)
I am not a native speaker, so it maybe a wrong perception, but I feel that "unified" is somewhat reductive. As in something has to be dumbed down to meet ends with other parts.
UNA is much like a "host" for various apps that can well be quite sophisticated and significant in their own way. Take integrations for example - they are also UNA apps, but they aren't really adapted to work with UNA - they are connected via their APIs. Feels more like united that unified to me, no?

It depends what a owner wants to project with his or hers site. Sometimes simple is good sometimes bizarre is good who knows. I would just like to continue with the final release already. I had no other choice but come to a complete HAULT when i was working on Trident, but its all good.
