I think I was hacked already!

All my memembers have reported getting a greeting from "A Visiter"! I just browsed my own site as a visitor and did not find a way to send a greeting.

The damn site has only been open a month! I think I may be finished playing with websites... If your not rich to have technical staff, go to work everyday and have a family. It's not a good idea to run a website.

How did this happen?

I do everything through my computer that runs linux, I do the sftp to transfer files.

Someone please help, because I'm about to delete my site! Thank god I didn't put no money into it yet.

On a side note, an opensource platform I used for a dating service I had open for over a year never had these kind of issues.

Hey look, I'm sorry for freaking out. I know I'm not the only one with troubles. I was thinking maybe a search engine bot triggered it, but now that I'm looking through things it was only the female members that got a new greeting from this "Visitor"

Visitors able to send greetings, this is not hack or bug :)

Would you mind telling me how? I browsed my site over as a visitor and there is is no such link. I'm far more maticulous than most think.

One possible way this could happen is if someone joins the site, makes greetings then deletes their own account. took my a couple of hours to recreate how that could happen. Then to top it off their is no record in the admin panel if someone signs up then deletes their account, at least none I could find. I know visitors are able to vote in poles and leave comments on blogs and profiles which should not happen. So please don't think I don't put shit loads of every minute of my life into this software. I'm not going to come crying on the forums for every little problem, i do do hours of research before coming to this forum with a problem.

No dis-respect here Kaution but you are over reacting a bit. What you are experiencing now is all parr for the course in the life of an admin running any site. these sort of things happen because you have to remember there is an army out there trying find ways of spamming your site, all our sites. so its very possible that some spammer has made an account, left messages, and then deleted his/her account.

first thing you have to look at here is permissions you have given each group, so first go into your admin CP>settings>membership levels and have a look in there to what different membership levels can do. for non members you can deny them access to everything, so no posting comments in blogs and so on. If you poke around in there it may help you.

Regards

Tyke

I am sorry for over reacting. I di specify I'm not the only one with trouble. I have come to believe that no matter what software a admin runs for a site, nothing is hack proof. Again all apologies. I did go through the member settings, that was the very first thing I did.

Thankyou for the reply.Laughing
