I see SO much interest in changing things...

But no one seems to worry about the BASICS on their new sites....

I've looked at a LOT of sites posted in these forums and almost 80% have never even changed the default Privacy Policy, TOS, FAQ, or About Us pages.  Id' think that the FIRST thing you'd want to do with your new site is to begin personalizing it a bit, and whipping it into shape as YOUR site.  Although I'm sure Boonex has got to love all of the links back to them in there, as a webmaster, you want the site to be YOURS.  I'm positive, although I haven't searched in here, there are plenty of posts about this already, I just wanted to mention it again.  This was the FIRST thing I did upon setting my site up several years ago, and I try and keep these items updated as I go along.  Once you've gotten the basics down on your site, THEN I'd think about starting to mod it a bit more, but your FIRST mods should be THESE.

Just my 1.25 cents (used to be 2 cents, but with the economy the way it is...........)

Bigal, I agree as it's the first thing I did. It could be the same for others as well and we don't mention it here. I have visited a few sites and noted only the name of the site has been personalized because that's done by default if added in the header.inc file. I have also found many are not yet "live" or very active.

I support what you've said but believe many have sites but few are actually up and running properly.

Enjoy a lovely weekend.

not to mention the legal ramifications of not updating these

While I recognize the importance of these issues, I do not work with them until the rest of the site modifications/upgrades/tweaks are done.  I find that a considerable amount of time needs to be spent on the About Us to ensure it comes across in a quality manner.  While it seems simple, I have noticed many edits/revisions of the About Us have to be done to arrive at a final version that states what needs to be said in a way that reflects 100% positive.

The TOS is always completed by legal counsel to ensure loopholes and such are caught and filled and all aspects of the site and use of it's options are taken care of in a manner that greatly reduces my liability.

Privacy policy goes the same route as the TOS, while my sites do not share information, they may from time to time be placed in a position due to actions of the members (same as all the other sites) that require us under the laws to provide information, in some instances I may feel inclined to provide information without a subpoena even, and all these different aspects need to be covered to protect the site.

FAQ's are done by me as the site is built, as my sites contain to many options/modifications/upgrades and such to even consider creating the FAQ's from day one.

If your doing all of these from day one, many times you will find yourself constantly editing/altering/revising them as your site is built.  This is the reason many of us hold off on them until a site is ready to go into production.
