I need a fast tech to assist my chaotic dolphin

Dearest Boonex admins,

Can you please suggest a fast tech who can assist me on the case of my new dolphin? It has been months not functioning well because of cache thing. The one assisting is I think busy with other functions and he replies in 3-5days. My client is asking for a refund already. Hope you can help me. Thank you.

This is the website: http://www.actmalaria.net/dolphin

You see it is not showing well and when you login with other user it shows the previously logged in user. When you post something like photos, you need to REFRESH the page before it is updated and many more.

I checked the cache setting and eAccelator is not installed it says. But my host (Host For Web) says it is installed and the problem might be in the installation of dolphin.

Please admins, help me on this.

Thank you,

Arnel Navarra

Here is the message from Alen R of Host For Web:

==========

Hello,

Your Dolphin settings are not even listing EAccelerator in Cache engines table, it should be listed there, and if Dolphin is not detecting EAccelerator it should have listed no under installed, but it is completely missing from the table.

This seems to be some issue with Dolphin itself, and not EAccelerator installation.

Have you recent made any updates to Dolphin?

When did you notice that EAccelerator is no longer listed in the table?

You should try contacting Dolphin support, as these seems to be some issue with your Dolphin installation.

Best regards,
Alen R.

You do need help.  You should have posted this in the jobs section.  PM me and we can discuss things there.

It appears that is two UNI templates, appears someone attempted to clone the UNI and did not do it correctly.

Also, you need to get off of Host for Webs.

Wasn't it eAccelerator that Boonex removed?

eAccelerator is just a php accelerator. It is no longer a caching engine. Dolphin no longer uses it and it is not looked for. The fact that your host says it's installed makes no difference.

Go into dolphins admin. Then to settings and then cache then settings.

Turn off css and js caching. Then clear the dolphin cache. Leave the cache off. Or at least leave JS cache off.

Hi Sir. I was not the one installed it. It was Igor_L.

That was my question to sir Igor. I requested to re-install the whole package and see. But weeks have past. I know he's busy but my client is already angry.

Wrong. They are out of date with there information. Dolphin no longer uses or supports it. It was removed from dolphin 17 months ago. http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/ticket/3112

Well, Host for Web is OK for  a starter site with Dolphin but eventually you will have resources issues to deal with as well.  May as well look at a proper Dolphin host at the beginning.

And having two UNI templates, or at least that is what shows up in the template switcher, is going to cause issues with the template.

Does not appear to be a caching problem at all. Something is wrong with your template files.

Yea, your css files are seriously messed up.

This is what your base default.css file looks like.

http://www.actmalaria.net/dolphin/templates/base/css/default.css

And this is mine.

http://www.deanbassett.com/templates/base/css/default.css

As you can see, they are completely different. Someone who did not know what they were doing tried to make changes to the template.

Make some backups of the current templates folder. Then i recommend you delete it and reupload the origional templates folder from the dolphin zip archive.

Someone made a big mess of your current template files.

Oh only me and Igor and his "developers" are accessing the files. Let me check that file. Atttached are my screenshots on cache and templates after applying your suggestion sir.

disable the Uni template file (or even delete it) and then upload the Uni template from the Dolphin zip using binary transfer mode.  Don't access the site until you get the new Uni template uploaded from the zip.

I can see from my backup files that my default.css is the same with you (see attached). Ok, let me download that file on the server.

Much thanks to your sir geek. I believe thru this thread I will be able to see my dolphin working in no time. Thanks everyone.

By the way, the admin uses the Uni template; so it has to stay on the site.  It is also why I said not to access the site until you got Uni reloaded clean; clean means you don't upload it to the current Uni template, you replace what you have currently with a fresh upload of the Uni template.

Please listen, there is a boat load of css and template files and even scripts in a template.  That is why we are telling you to backup the current UNI template, delete it from the server, and then upload a fresh copy from the Dolphin zip using binary transfer mode.

Are you using Macromedia Dreamweaver to work on your site?  If so, stop.  Dreamweaver will screw things up.  Even creating a basic HTML based site with Dreamweaver adds all kinds of garbage to an HTML document.  Learn to hand code your templates and php files.

Looks fixed now that you replaced the default.css file.

You will have to clear your browser cache as well. I had to hit ctrl-F5 to force my browser to load the new css file.

HOOOOORRRAY! My dolphin is back on normal again. Thank you thank you.

One more thing about the forum page.  So many [L] thing where it should be button images i believe. Please see attached.

Yes, it has loaded correctly for me as well.  If you want to build your own template, you can clone the Uni and rename it and follow the instructions in the forums.  Note the BxTemplName.php file that holds the information about the template.

One more thing about the forum page.

To compile the language for the forum, you need to visit the forum logged into the site with an admin account.  You should see "manage forum" on the forum menu.  Click manage and then compile language.

Quick fix if you don't have other languages:

Log in with admin account, go to Manage Forum, then click on Compile Language.

Yes, sir geek. Thanks for the advise. I will make modifications on the templates once we've tested everything is working well. Hope you can help me with the forum [L] links. I've found something in the admin page with this:

Please follow this link to check if forum is functioning properly. If it is working but '[L[' signs are displayed everywhere, then you need to compile language file (you maybe be need to compile language file separately for every language and template you have).

Another thing is that, when I hit LOGOUT it says nothing until you hit F5 to refresh then you know you are logged out. And when you login with other user, the previous user appears to be logged in until you hit F5 again. Hope you can help me resolve this issue. Thank you.

fire him/her, hire someone in this forum, actually the regular posters here are the best ones because they're learning new things every day, they've encountered a lot more problems than lurking techs, in my own opinion of course.
