I'm an old fool....maybe I'll upgrade.

Okay....  If I upgrade, is there a way to change the number of categories on the front page. Oh - and does it destroy what's already on the site in terms of CSS edits, pics, etc.?

Man - I'm old....and tired.

Thanks for all the good-natured advice, folks.  Great forum, here.  Wish I had a better genetic code so as to contibute something.

P.S.: I currently have zero expert points and feel confident that I will be successful in avoiding any in the near future.

what version are you using

if it's 6.1.6 you should be ok to save some of your work

Upgrade Instructions from 6.1.6 to 7.0

FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY. THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL RELEASE.

Step 0: Back up all Dolphin 6.1.6 files, folders and database.

Step 1: Install Dolphin 7.0 to the same server as Dolphin 6.1.6, so the migration script will be able to get data from it.

Step 2: Your Dolphin 6.1.6 site will stay put, so you can play with it a few times, no sweat. Anyway do the backup as stated in Step 0 above.

Step 3: You can only migrate from 6.1.6 (6.1.5 could play ball too, but we haven't checked).

Step 4: The Dolphin 7 installation must be a "clean install" with all the modules installed (those that you're using in 6.1.6, at least).

Step 5: Start from "Profiles" first, then go on with the rest of the data.

Step 6: Migration is a "cron job" thing, so cron jobs have to be properly configured.

NOTE 1: If you have custom profile fields, you can transfer them with the "Custom Fields" function in the "Data Migration" module of Dolphin 7.0. But, before proceeding with custom fields transfer you need to recreate custom fields for Dolphin 7 manually. Only matched fields will be transferred properly.

NOTE 2: The RMS which you have used with Dolphin 6.1.x will not work for Dolphin 7.0. You will have to install the latest RMS for Dolphin 7.0.

NOTE 3: We do not recommend replacing your live Dolphin 6.1.x sites with Dolphin 7.0 upgraded using the above instructions and scripts. There could be changes in the data migration script before the official release. Please use these instructions for TEST PURPOSES ONLY.

FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY. THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL RELEASE.

Hello bestofthebest!

"change the number of categories on the front page" it doesn't depends from upgrade. It should be changeable in settings from admin panel.

About changes in css - if it wasn't done in separate template then - yes, ur changes will be erased.

But these are approximate answers, it depends on particular website.

Regard
