How to stop Spammers from sending mass messages??

Our members are getting a lot of spam messages.  They're the same message with a Yahoo email account.  Is there a way to stop this?  Is there a setting where we can turn off the feature that allows mail to be sent to users from our website through private messages?

Are you saying one of your members is sending these messages, or they are coming from outside your site?  You can of course limit the number of messages each membership level can send each day - and if you haven't done that already I would do it right away.

Thank You Caltrade for the feedback.  How do you limit the amount of emails per member?

There is a way to fully eliminate it from happening.  In other words, the members never receive a single spam e-mail from another member on the site, Admin finds out immediately about the spammer and your able to isolate who it is and deal with them without disupting the site.

The best 20 bucks your going to spend on your site in regards to eliminating spam/scams and other garbage from the site.

I am having the same problem also with someone with a yahoo e-mail account. They are still sending spam from member accounts that have been deleted.

They are using these nicknames:

maceylove12
love441
stella008
celine4u
weah22
esther4you
maceylove
queen4luve
queen4u

and these are some of their e-mail addresses:

queen.david10@yahoo.com

queen4u_david@yahoo.com

sharon_khalifa@yahoo.com

precious_12aliba@yahoo.com

and when they join, they put their city and country as Darfor, Senegal

Step 1:  Install the mod I listed above to deal with spam messages being sent.  Redirects them to Admin.  Set the filter to look for the types of things they are getting.  If an account has been deleted, they can't be using that account to send messages unless they are in your DB then you have an issue with your DB and it's login credentials having been compromised.

Step 2:  Install this little Web Statistics Mod.  It's free and will give you the IP of the offending member.  Get the IP and you can block it, thus forcing them to get another and another.

See how all of this works?  You install the tools to deal with the idiots and eventually you make it such a pain in the arse that they just go away.  Nothing will make your site totally spam proof, but I tend to enjoy the approach of utilizing a word filtering program that changes http://* into "I like fords, do you like Chevy's" or some other stupid saying.  Makes the link unclickable as it's just a weird saying.

You have to be smarter than the idiots who are trying to use your site to spam.

If you need Topher's old word filter, send me an e-mail with your off-site e-mail addy and I'll pass it to you.  It really is a cool toy for dealing with stupid people.

Okay... I am lodging a formal complaint with Boonex right now.  Why is it that everyone around here gets these e-mails that they will complete someone's life and all I get are e-mails asking for help.  I want to complete someone's life and I think that Boonex should direct some of these amazingly hot women my way...

I think Lightwolf will agree with this!
