i mean going from www.thegettogether.net to www.whofreakingknows.com

i know i lose my current page rank and backlinks,  but maybe a new name will bring some freshness to the site and i can always redirect the tgt traffic for a year or so

then sell the tgt name in the future or something

is that all that is involved to do a name change?

Yes, once your domain is pointed to your site, you just change the URL in inc/header.inc.php and clear dolphins cache folders. cache, cache_public and tmp. Manually is best to ensure everything was cleared.

So yes, quite simple.

It is as simple as they say. I do this with my production sites all of the time - but for a different purpose (this is how I stage my development work before pushing it to production).

I think you'll have the most difficulty with setting up the 301 redirects to the new site, but even that should be simple.

I just write my host and ask them to do it.   It is done by the next day.
