How do members "opt-out" of email notifications?

As we test our setup, how do members "opt-out" on emails being sent to their personal email addresses?  With the issue of Spam mail, legislation requires that members are given the option to opt-out.  For example, members receive an automatic email notice when another member matches them.  The email doesn't give the recipient an opportunity to unsubscribe from further email notices. Also, there are no admin functions on a member's account that will allow them to control emails.

Doe anyone have a solution?  I haven't seen this issue brought up and nothing listed on the Trac tickets.  This is a critical issue...anyone?

Thanks - Jethro

Members have the ability to opt out of mass emails from their "edit profile" page by unchecking that box.  But I believe this is only for admin mass email.

There doesn't seem to be any controls I can find to provide privacy settings options for mail, which is what I think you are talking about.  In a member's account/privacy-settings page, there are options to decide which groups should be allowed to do interact with you for events, photos, etc.  There is even one for simple messenger.  But there isn't one for basic email privledges, like sendinig messages to your personal email.  As you know, this is an option the sender of a message has when composing it.  Other contact options, like matches, also dont exist

You have a good point.  THIS PRIVACY FUNCTION SHOULD BE ADDED.  A member should be allowed to decide who can contact them through personal email and under what circumstances.  Boonex should add a mail section to privacy settings with perhaps a series of check boxes or drop down menus to set these privledges.  Moreover, notifications for the sender of a message to another member who has opted out of messages would have to be provided, like: "The member you wish to contact has opted out of messages sent to their personal email."

Someday, Someway.

Hi There

Is there any update on this topic?

There should be an option to opt-in and out of email notifications on a type by type basis...

Cheers!

Actually, the best way is to simply hide that selection when the person has opted out of having PMs sent to personal email instead of a message after the fact.  You can also easily remove that option and just don't have it at all.

Geeks, making the world a better place
