How do I take my site offline?

Hi, upgrading today from 5.6 to the newest version. How do I take the site offline or make it inaccessible while I'm doing this? Won't it cause a problem if people are visiting the site as I'm doing the upgrade?

Well...since I couldn't find anything within Dolphin to do this (Joomla has a feature like this in the admin backend) I just created my own "site offline" HTML page and redirected my domain to this page.

If anyone has a better or more official way of doing this, please share. The upgrade took me over an hour to complete - I think it's best to just take the site down during this time.

You can make a index.html file and add some info there if you will...

I'm a noob...

But if it were me, I would just make a simple "Be back later" file, and put it in my main file on my FTP. Then log on my Cpanel and re-direct the site to that page. Just me.

That's exactly what I did. Thanks for the replies...I'm just curious why this isn't mentioned in the forums anywhere else (not that I could find). I'm on day #2 of upgrading now...it's taking HOURS. So my site still sits offline.
