HostGator VS HostForWeb

Well, I made the big jump today. I have signed with Hostgator (a VPS account) and will start the process of moving all my accounts from HFW to them. I have not been satisfied with HFW for some time.

Without creating a bash fest, Do any of you have any suggestions for things I should watch out for using HG? I appreciate everyone's interest but will not respond to any bash posts for either one. I am just looking for reassurance I'm not wasting my money and time moving to them.

The reality is, HFW gives you a little more for your VPS dollar over the comparable package from HG but the differences are so small, I don't think it'll be a problem for me. I am really looking for a higher level of professionalism and problem resolution than I've had with HFW for the last couple years.

I love host gator though you need to be comfortable with SSH. If you are there is no limit to what you can do. And they have amazing customer service. They will not do much for dolphin for you but as long as you have the know how to do it yourself you will be happy.

I have been with HG for over a year now and could not be happier, though as mentioned you do need to be comfortable with SSH to get the best out of your VPS.

I just picked up another VPS account with them and so far the setup is going just as smooth as the first. Their support is always very responsive if/when I run into issues.

One thing I would note is to manage your own backups. They offer a backup service and can do basic restores from what I've been told, but I would not want to depend on their systems should my site require it. I suppose this would be true with any host though,  it was simple enough to set up a cron job to perform hourly/daily DB backups and FTP them to a backup server of mine.

I never really heard about HostForWeb. And by the way, HG currently has default to SFTP.
