Heres a possibly silly question...

No, this time Newton can come out of hiding, its not one of my unsolvable problems, (The last one still aint solved :() so heres my question... What part of the server/7.1 setup actually carries out the video processing? Is it RMS/Redhat? or is that just something to allow people to transmit video? Why do I ask? because somewhere I read that in 7.1 ports 1935/5080 do not work as described and we now need to use 1937/5090. Now IF RMS does the processing, it could be that as the ports on the server are set to 1935/5080 this could be the cause of the problem. Otherwise it is all down to whatever does process video/sounds etc... so, see question above and we can play with it from there :)

Depends on what you mean by video processing.

If you mean uploaded videos, then RMS is not even used. FFMPEG is, and that is called via the cron job. So cron must be working for videos and sounds to be processed.

If you mean live video such as webcams in the chat rooms. Then yes, RMS is used for that, but i can't tell you about the ports. I have not used RMS since dolphin 7.0.8. Have no need for it.

Its ffmpeg.exe can be found / flash / modules / global / app/ ffmpeg make sure your permissions are correctly set read write execute

you can check if the permissions are correct in dashboard tools/host tools/permissions

Happy thoughts

Thanks for that, all settings *seem* to be correct, and I was referring to the processing of video comments, everything else processes well, is it again ffmpeg that handles that? I am told our ffmpeg setting is 777

Quote · 9 Feb 2013

Nope. RMS is needed for video comments.

yup, and we have that, I am even trying with Newtons RMS, all I ever get when leaving video comments is processing for a long time then error processing. I thought it was my install, so I went to the beetle site where he has left a video comment, and tried there, I figured it MUST work I am using same RMS on the same site, but still error processing. So, by elimination, it MUST be my end. Everything else works perfik! This is why I asked what processes the video comments, in case we have something set wrong

 right newton

Dave cant leave a video comment on his site ezservices/dolph. i have tried and just get after it takes ages with "processing" is  "Alert - Error Processing File"  now on my site northumberlandfriends.co.uk which is on the same server i get through the processing stage without any error but it then just shows as 'file not processed yet' you can see at  http://northumberlandfriends.co.uk/m/photos/view/I-have-a-Dream

First time I record 10sec video. While processing I get connection error.

Second time I record 10sec video. It was processing for 1.5minute then it was possible to Post it. Then there is a new message saying File Not Processed Yet. Then it is posted.

Remembering Prashank25 (think it was) saying that first time he tried recording on demo.boonex.com it didn't work but second and onwards it did. Maybe what I see in this case.

I was using Chrome in the experiment.

This is exactly what AlexT had posted a while back about video comments.

Under the admin account, the first video always seems to fail, record a second time and it allegedly processes.

Now under mynewbeetle, I have been posting under admin account so that is not what happens on my site.

I will search to see where AlexT posted that..

max_execution_time 120 120
max_file_uploads 20 20
max_input_nesting_level 64 64
max_input_time 120 120

these are my timings, yes they are set extremely high but I need them that way, and it works..

max_execution_time 40000 40000
max_file_uploads 20 20
max_input_nesting_level 64 64
max_input_time 70000 70000

[edit] somewhere around 3000 and 6000 do good for most servers to keep from timing out processing videos.

Somehow or other, it now seems to be woprking at last!!! It could well have been the timings set to so long it timed out... or the fact that the techs at the DC had wandered off into the ether with ffmpeg :)

It's because your easyhost  changed the needed timings, and actually doubled your php working RAM from 256MB to 512MB.

These couple settings make ALL the difference for a good performing server..

max_execution_time 40000 40000
max_file_uploads 20 20
max_input_nesting_level 64 64
max_input_time 70000 70000
max_input_vars 1000 1000
memory_limit 512M 512M

i have root access to server, so i changed these.  the original settings were set by a boonex agent who set up our server to be dolph ready.  i noticed that the video comments are working but without audio, but DC techs have been rebuilding as for some reason ffmpeg vanished
