I have problems with them too, because more and more spammers coming from there right now. I developed a mod to block them by querying the tor network for the IP. It works really well but i am still unsure wheres the best place to block them on my site.

Currently i only block submitting the join form without any error. They just cannot submit the form. Any suggestion whats more user friendly?

Probably a message in red on the join form, or a JavaScript alert that the user's IP address is blacklisted.  Maybe add in a cute picture of a sloth, too.
