I think it may be a good idea to make a mod where you can add another dolphin site to yours and make a dolphin group so that your members in your dolphin share logins with the other dolphin sites in your group.
What do you think? this is very sociable.

I like this idea, but I am not sure the Dolphin architecture is set up this way. In addition to groups, it could maybe be done on the member search - so that some kind of icon or link beside each member name would take you to their profile - wherever its home community is. Also, the "Open ID" standard will provide some of what you are looking for. I believe they are planning this for Dolphin 7.1. People will be able to sign on with their Yahoo, gmail, etc email accounts. I think it will change this business for all of us but I don't know all the implications.

This can problaby be done now I think, it would just be sharing your database with two sites..Just a thought but it sounds possible where maybe there is a way to direct your other sites DB to the other DB with the member info...I would search "Share Database For Two Sites" on google...

Wow I didnt expect resonses like this lol, I will search google! I wonder how many people would want to group together like this? because Its been on my mind for a while now, how to beat facebook???this would work because it would be more like 'A MOVEMENT' something that would only grow and make shure we all win! haha |
It comes up with results for Drupal ???
also i found this:
You can actually query mysql remotely. I know that in later cpanel versions you can specify which IPs are allowed to access the database. So you can do the following:
1) figure out the IP address of your siteA 2) add the above IP into Access Hosts list of siteB database 3) when you conntect to the database, instead of localhost, use IP (or domain) of the siteB.
Sample code ( from cpanel ):
Perl $dbh = DBI->connect("DBI:mysql:db_name:localhost","db_user","<PASSWORD HERE>");
php $dbh=mysql_connect ("localhost", "db_user", "<PASSWORD HERE>") or die ('I cannot connect to the database because: ' . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db ("db_name");

If we could do it through cpannel there would be no need for a mod....
Both sites would need cpannel and we could make a html block (that we can all share) in dolphin that acts like a web ring or cool banners with links for all sites in the group.
I'm still wearing my sun glasses!
