Excuse my ignorance, but I downloaded thru SVN (16983) and installed in in a sub directory like mydomain.com/beta. I have done lots of template changes to UNI. I used UNI because when I created a new template and named it, the forums stopped working.
My questions:
- If I used SVN to download the latest version today (17021), how do I upload it over my existing version without destroying my modifications?
- Once the official release comes out, will I be able to update my pre-beta version to it?
- If so, how do I go about moving it from the sub directory ../beta to the root of my domain?
If this is not possible, it's ok because I should have known better than to make mods to a pre-beta anyways...

well you could try renaming your uni template to something else and install it in your updated site normally and hope it will work. Thats the reason people should not put lots of work in something thats isn't released. so much to do.... |

1) Just as Prashank25 said. Make a back you the template folder. 2) You don't. The SVN is intended to be used by developers for testing only. It's not able to be updated. 3) Just like any other version of dolphin.

Prashank25 & Deano92964 Thanks for the answers you guys. I am not so worried about it like I thought because it was worth it all just to get to work my way through 7.1. It seems much easier than 7.0.9 plus a major cleanup of unnecessary language keys and CSS files. Runs good too!
Hey Dean, thanks for the update to your Tools module! I bought some other tool last year for changing the text in "About Us", "Terms & Cond" and "Privacy". Are you planning to update those for 7.1?

All of my modules will be updated for 7.1 eventually.
It's a bit difficult because i want to do it in one module instead of 2 separate versions like i did with my tools. But to do that, dolphin must report the proper version as many of my modules will require a different template based on version. But the SVN is still reporting as dolphin 7.0.9, so i am waiting for beta before i update any more of my modules.
I have a feeling i will have enough time. I suspect the beta is going to be full of bugs, so i expect it will take several beta releases before the final is released.
And no one should be updating their production sites until the final is released anyway.

OK, great. I did notice the later SVN versions have now been updated to report 7.1

correct me if i am wrong, i think mr.boon said the betas will have upgrade scripts so it should be ok to use right away.

True, they will, but do you want your users to be using a buggy site while the beta testing is going on?
Personally, i would wait until after the betas are done, but that's just what i would do.

Not to mention the time it will take the developers to update mods, so yeah 1-2-3 more months :) (I like my 7.0.9 setup it leaves 7.1 in the dust lol)

Keep in mind, some revisions may include database changes, so a SQL update may also be required. I recommend reviewing the changesets before applying a revision to make sure you have a complete upgrade.
Cha cha!
Edit: That's if you still want to go the SVN route. Yes, it's meant for developers and insane folks who don't know when to stop.

Well I tested the SVN with more than 100 active users and we found quite a few bugs (nevermind point 1):
Andrew should fix those problems before releasing the Beta.

Fortunately, I am planning a new niche site and my users are my testers. I just felt the urge to take the pre-beta for a serious "private" test drive. I personally like it over my 7.0.9 site. BTW, I may be classified insane by some here, but I DID NOT change my established site... it is still on 7.0.9.
I am hoping to see some established members and developers jump in early and offer custom mods and template customization, but as Dean said, it may be a foolish move that costs them time and headaches. It's not like I am in a hurry on the new site.
Thanks to all for your insight.
