Godaddy shared hosting

Does anyone have dolphin7 installed and actually working correctly on godaddy servers? I have previously installed a copy of v6 working perfectly. I attempted to install 7 with no luck. 7 gave me link errors to menu items so I was not able to access forums, blogs, etc. I removed 7 to revert back to 6.1x and now its doing the same thing.... whats goin on?

See for yourself. I would appreciate any suggestions.

No. I could not even get D6 working correctly on godaddy. But some have. Not all of godaddys servers are setup the same. So some have got things working, others have not.

Go daddy is the worst hosting available.

I had a site there once that lost access to the databases for no apparent reason. I would not use them to host dolphin.

Seems like the htaccess did not get copied over from ftp or during unzip.    i think on godaddy they auto install a htaccess  file on folder creation.

if you want reinstall d7 and see if there is a htaccees file there.   if it is there and has only a few lines of code then thats why its not working.   Just open .htaccess in notepad from the d7 zip and past it into the one on godaddy.

Hi, I use Host for Web. I run D7 fine with them. Pretty impressed with them too

I've never really trusted GoDaddy, they've always seemed cheap to me (in more ways than one).

As dolphin_jay has said, it would appear to be an issue with your .htaccess file (hey, I had to say something, otherwise this would just be a rant on a host).

you must be pretty new to this spectrum. there have been many discussions about HFW. if its working for you that is spectacular, but didnt really have anything to do with the answer to this post, as the member was asking if anybody was using GD shared.

I looked at the htaccess file from my current reverted v.6.1x and it appears to be good. Im stumped. Like i said I have a working version running in a different folder on this account with no problems. Im very close to dropping godaddy. Coming from the dedicated server world to a shared service is atrocious to say the least. The lack of control and flow of customization and updating is enough to make me have a total nerd tantrum.

move on to a host with cpanel and you will be fine...  godady panel is the worst i have ever seen hosted with them for a total of 4 days....

there domain name control is fine but not there file control panel.

Understandable. Dedicated is way better then shared.

I actually would prefer a dedicated with a default install of the OS. Untouched by the hosting provider. But most insist on installing and setting it up their way. But it's still better then shared.

If you have the money, there is a hosting company out of Texas that has the most reliable service I have seen.  With your dedicated server you get a team of 4 techs that manage your specific server 24/7/365 - and that team is assigned to your server for life, so they will know your site in and out better than you many of the times, if you ever have a problem you deal with that team that is assigned to your specific server, so your not bounced around a room of tech people that have to read pages of notes to help you.   So check out rackspace.com if you have the money and want a serious hosting service for your community.

The lowest price at Rackspace is $419.00/month. I don't believe this person has the money for anywhere near that, especially if they are using GoDaddy.

Also, I haven't heard all candy and sunshine about Rackspace, either, but I do agree, they are a very credible host.

The Planet is a comparable (and larger, if I recall) host from Texas as well, and they have servers under $100.00, and even a few under $75.00 in their "Bargain Bin." Still, price.

Sounds like a fanatical ad.

I looked at rack space years ago. Way out of my price range. And the price has come down since i last looked.

I don't need much support.

Just need someone to replace parts if something dies.

Even ISP's local to me charge a lot for co-location which is great. Your own server placed in someones data center. But what they charge to plug your server into their switch costs more then most dedicated hosting plans.

Sometimes i don't get it.

Ya I know, they are pricey, one of my friends uses it for his clients and suggested it.

So speaking of hosting services, who has had the best experience with which company?  It's always a confusing thing to me of which service to use.

So i will start, when we started out, we went with 'Shared Hosting' so we tried IXWebhosting, total disaster, the platform just wouldn't work,  so then we moved to 'PowWeb' now that is a kickass service, so if your looking for an inexpensive service with really good 24/7 customer service, PowWeb.com is great with the Dolphin platform.

This should be in a new topic.

But, still. I've used allot of web hosts over the years, even some that are no longer in business. I've had the worst experience at CirtexHosting, who did things that even still anger me greatly.

I use Media Temple's Grid-Service now, and have had little to no issues. They're still working on the platform, so I can accept if something happens such as a quick database connection issue. They're a true 24/7/365 company, even working on the holidays, and they seem very knowledgeable.
